WPL 2024 Match 7: Delhi Capitals Register Easy Win Over RCB

 

Delhi Capitals continued their winning form as they defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore in match number 7 of WPL 2024 played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on 29th February 2024.

RCB captain Smriti Mandhana won the toss and decided to field first. Shafali Varma was given a reprieve as Shreyanka Patil dropped a simple chance. Meg Lanning struggled initially but Varma took the charge putting enough pressure on the RCB bowlers. Sophie Devine got the initial breakthrough by getting rid of Lanning with a simple catch by Wareham.

Shafali Varma took the charge putting enough pressure on RCB bowlers with attacking shots. On the other hand, Alice Capsey also showed intent on keeping the momentum going for DC. At the end of the first six overs, DC made 45 for 1.

Varma and Capsey looked in sublime touch putting enough pressure on RCB bowlers. At the end of the first timeout, DC ended at 60 for 1. Varma and Capsey kept the scoreboard ticking hitting boundaries and sixes at will. Varma completed her fifty off 30 deliveries and was dismissed on the very next delivery caught by Wareham. Varma and Capsey added 82 runs for the 2nd wicket. Jemimah Rodrigues could open her account caught by Bahadur at mid-off. The second timeout was taken with the scoreboard with 111 for 3.  

Nadine de Klerk produced a stunning yorker to dismiss Capsey to bring back RCB into the match. Jess Jonassen included in the playing XI showed intent along with Kapp which changed the momentum in favor of DC. Devine struck getting the wicket of Kapp with a simple catch to Bahadur at long-off. Kapp and Jonassen added 48 runs in quick time. Jonassen scored valuable runs in the final over to help Delhi Capitals post 194 for 5 in 20 overs. Devine and de Klerk took 2 wickets each for RCB while Shreyanka Patil took 1 wicket.

Chasing 195 runs to win, Smriti Mandhana looked in sublime touch putting the pressure on DC bowlers. She got most of the strike in the initial overs and kept hitting big shots. On the other hand, Devine struggled initially. At the end of the first six overs, RCB openers made 52 for 0 and the first timeout was called.  

After the field restrictions, Devine showed intent with big shots against Minnu Mani. Smriti Mandhana looked impressive with fifty off 32 deliveries. Arundhati Reddy struck dismissing Devine with a simple catch to Jonassen. Devine and Mandhana added 77 runs for the opening wicket.

Meghana came to the crease and struggled initially before putting some pressure on DC bowlers. Kapp was introduced into the attack and did the job of getting the wicket of Mandhana. Mandhana and Meghana added 35 runs for 2nd wicket.

Richa Ghosh hit two big sixes before getting out in the same over of Kapp’s over. With that, the second timeout was taken at 138 for 3. DC bowlers held onto their nerves picking wickets at regular intervals. It was an impressive performance as RCB made 169 for 9 in 20 overs.

For her 32 off 16 balls and 2 for 35, Kapp was named the player of the match award. With this win, DC move to the top of the points table.
