French Open 2024 Day 2: Kidambi Srikanth, Sindhu progress, Prannoy crashes out
It was a
good outing for the Indian Shuttlers as Kidambi Srikanth and PV Sindhu moved
into the second round of the Super 750 French Open played in Paris on 6th
March 2024.
Kidambi
Srikanth stunned Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in three grueling games. The
Indian showed his class putting the opponent under immense pressure with
smashes and drop shots. At the mid-game interval, Srikanth led 11-7. After the
mid-game interval, it was one-way traffic for Srikanth winning the first
comfortably at 21-15.
The second
game saw both players fighting for each point initially before Srikanth showed
his class taking an 11-8 lead at the break. After the break, Chou made a strong
comeback to take 3 points in succession to level it at 11-11. Both players
showed their fighting spirit before Chou held onto his nerves, winning by
22-20.
It was a
closely fought start initially in the third game before an injury happened to
Chou. Srikanth took the advantage and had a commanding lead at the mid-game
break. After the break, it was one-way traffic as Srikanth won the third game
comfortably at 21-8 to qualify for the second round. He will face Lu GZ of
China.
HS Prannoy
suffered a straight-game defeat against Lu GZ of China. It was an impressive
start for the Indian in the first game before the Chinese made a strong comeback
winning by 21-17. The second game was a closely fought affair initially before
Lu showed his class winning with the same scoreline of 21-17 to move into the second
round.
PV Sindhu defeated
Michelle Li of Canada in three thrilling games. Both players fought for each
point before Li showed her skills to take an 11-8 lead at the break. After the
interval, Sindhu took 3 points in succession leveling the score at 11-11. Both
players fought for each point as Li held onto her nerves, winning by 22-20.
The second
one was also a closely fought encounter as both players fought for each point. It
went right down the wire, but this time Sindhu held onto her nerves winning by
22-20. Sindhu and Li had an excellent encounter in the third and deciding
encounter before the Indian held onto her nerves winning by 21-19 to move into the
second round. She will face BW Zhang of the USA.
