French Open 2024: Indian Shuttlers Move In Quarterfinals
The Indian
Shuttlers had a great day with most of them making it into the quarterfinals of
the Super 750 French Open played in France on 7th March 2024.
PV Sindhu
proved her worth with a three-set win over Zhang of the United States of
America. The first game saw the Indian struggling before losing the first game
easily at 13-21.
Sindhu struggled
initially in the second game before showing her class putting the USA player
under pressure. She played some lovely smashes that kept her on the front foot,
winning the second game easily at 21-10. The third game also started decently for both players
before Sindhu showed her class winning it easily by 21-14 to move into the
quarterfinals. She will play Chen Yufei of China.
The women’s
doubles pairing of Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand stunned World number 7 Fukushima
and Hirota in two straight games. It was a great performance by the Indian pair
winning by 21-18, 21-13. Indian pair had to fight in the first game before
producing a dominating performance to register a comfortable victory. They will
now face the number 1 seed Chen QC and Jia YF of China.

Shetty moved into the quarterfinals with a straight-game win over Man W C and
Tee KW of Malaysia. It was a dominating performance by the Indian pair as they
never looked threatened winning by 21-13, 21-12. They will now face S Jomkoh
and Kedren of Thailand.
Lakshya Sen
proved his worth by defeating Li Shifeng of China in three games. The Chinese
had better start winning the first game easily by 21-16. Sen then showed
fighting spirit to put a disappointing outing and won the next two games easily
by 21-15, 21-13 to move into the quarterfinals. He will now Loh Kiean Yew of
Singapore.
Kidambi Srikanth
suffered a heartbreaking loss to Lu GZ of China in three games. The first game
was a closely fought encounter right from the word go as Indian held onto his
nerves to win it by 21-19.
The second
game saw the Chinese produce a dominating performance winning it by 21-12 to
force into decider.
Srikanth
and Lu fought for each point in the third game. The Indian had a great chance
to win it Lu showed his class to win it by 22-20 to move into the
quarterfinals.
