French Open 2024 Round 1: Indian Shuttlers Move Into Second Round

 

The Indian Shuttlers had a brilliant outing as they moved into the second round of the Super 750 French Open played in Paris on 5th March 2024.

Satwik/Chirag Shetty produced a dominating performance registering a commanding win over Ong Y S and Teo E Y of Malaysia in straight games. The Indian pair showed their class in the first game winning by 21-13. Both pairs fought for each point in the second game as the Indian pairing held onto their nerves to win by 24-22 to move into the next round. They will face Man W C and Tee K W of Malaysia.

The women’s doubles saw Tressa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand defeat their counterparts Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa in three games. The first game saw Tanisha and Ashwini Ponnappa prove their worth winning by 21-16. Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand showed fighting spirit to win the game with a scoreline of 21-19.

The third and deciding encounter saw Jolly and Gayatri showing their abilities to win by 21-17 to move into the second round. They will now face Fukushima and Hirota of Japan.

Lakshya Sen registered a thrilling win over Japan Kenta Tsyenuma in three games. The Japanese looked in total control during the first game winning by 21-15. Sen made a strong comeback winning the second game with a 21-15 scoreline. The Indian produced a dominating display in 3rd game as he won by 21-3 to move into the second round. He will now face Li Shifeng of China.

It was curtains for Pranshu Rajawat as he lost to Victor Axelsen of Denmark in two straight games. The Indian lost with a scoreline of 8-21, 15-21 to be knocked out.

HS Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth, and PV Sindhu will play their first-round matches tomorrow.
