WPL 2024 Match 10: Delhi Capitals Thrash Gujarat Giants

Capitals moved to the top of the points table with a resounding win over
Gujarat Giants in match number 10 of WPL 2024 played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru
on 3rd March.
Gujarat
Giants captain Beth Mooney won the toss and decided to field first. Shafali
Varma looked in decent touch putting some pressure on GG bowlers. Meghana Singh
got the breakthrough getting rid of Varma caught by Woolvardt. Alice Capsey
looked in sublime touch with good shots keeping the scoreboard ticking. At the
end of the first six overs, Delhi Capitals scored 51 for 1.
Meghana
Singh struck getting the wicket of Alice Capsey. Capsey and Lanning added 38
runs for the 2nd wicket. Delhi Capitals ended the first timeout at
58 for 2. After the timeout, Lanning showed her class with some lovely shots keeping
the scoreboard ticking. DC captain completed fifty off 39 balls and maintained
momentum. Meghana Singh struck to dismiss Lanning. Lanning and Rodrigues added 47
runs for the 3rd wicket. At the end of the second timeout, DC scored 130 for 4.
After the
timeout, Delhi Capitals kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Shikha Pandey
hit valuable runs at the end to help them post 163 for 8. Meghna Singh was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 37, Ash Garnder 2 for 37, and Mannat Kashyap and Tanuja
Kanwar grabbed 1 wicket each.
Chasing 163
runs to win, Gujarat Giants got off to the worst possible start as Shikha
Pandey dismissed Laura Woolvardt to shatter the stumps. Phoebe Litchfield showed
intent to put some pressure on Delhi Capitals bowlers. Jonassen struck to dismiss
Litchfield caught by Sutherland. Jonassen got rid of GG captain Beth Mooney
hitting in front of the stumps to leave them in trouble. Gujarat Giants ended
the first six overs at 41 for 3.
Veda
Krishna Murthy struggled badly before Radha Yadav struck with a simple catch to
Shika Pandey at backward point. Gujarat Giants ended the first timeout at 53
for 4.
Ash Gardner
looked in good touch with some lovely shots keeping the hopes of Gujarat Giants
alive. Jonassen struck to get rid of Ash Gardner with a simple
stumping. Garnder and Kanwar added 32 runs for the 6th wicket. After
the second timeout, Delhi Capitals did not allow Gujarat Giants to score runs
easily and restricted Gujarat Giants to 138 for 8. Sayali Sathgare batted for Dayalan
Hemalatha as a concussion substitute. Jess Jonassen and Radha Yadav took 3
wickets for Delhi Capitals while Shikha Pandey and Reddy took 1 wicket each.
