Canada Open 2024: Priyanshu Rajawat Stun Anotsen
The young
Indian, Priyanshu Rajawat stunned Denmark’s Anders Anotsen in thrilling
quarterfinals of the Super 500 Canada Open 2024 played on 5th July.
It was a
superb start for Rajawat in the first game putting pressure on Anotsen with
smashes keeping momentum going and winning it by a comfortable margin of 21-11.
Anotsen showed
his fighting spirit making a strong comeback to win the second game easily at
21-17 to force the match into the decider.
Rajawat started
the third and deciding game with a brilliant 5-1 start. The match ebbed and
flowed before young Indian won it by 21-19 to seal a place in the semi-finals. He
will face Alex Lanier of France.
Priyanshu Rajawat
will look to continue their winning run as he defeated Rasmus Gemke of Denmark in
the first round. He then defeated Obayashi of Japan in two straight games.
On the
other hand, the Indian doubles pairing of Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand was
stunned by the 140th-ranked Hsieh P-s and Hung E-t of Chinese Taipei.
It was a
closely fought encounter right from the word before the Chinese Taipei showed
great fight and courage to win the first game 21-18. The second game was again
a closely fought encounter, but this time Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand
won the second game 21-19 to force the match into the decider.
Gayatri and
Tressa Jolly committed lots of unforced errors in the deciding game, losing by
16-21 to be knocked out in the quarterfinals stage.
