Ind vs Zim: Abhishek Sharma Scores Maiden T20I Century

 

After a disappointing outing in the first game, Abhishek Sharma showed his class with a superb century during the 2nd T20I match of the series against Harare Sports Club, Harare on 7th July 2024.

Indian captain Shubman Gill won the toss and decided to bat first. Abhishek Sharma began his innings with a six in the first over. Shubman Gill was dismissed cheaply caught by Brian Bennett at mid-on. Sharma showed intent to take on Brian Bennett with positive intent. At the end of the first six overs, India scored just 36 for 1.

Abhishek Sharma was given a reprieve after being dropped at long-off. He then took on the Zimbabwe bowlers not allowing them to settle. It was a sensational batting effort as he completed fifty off 33 balls. He then smashed the Zimbabwe bowlers especially Dion Mayers smashing him for 28 runs in one over changing the momentum of the Indian team.

Abhishek launched an assault with sixes at ease maintaining the momentum for India. He reached his maiden T20I century off 46 balls and was dismissed on the very next delivery. The explosive left-handed batter smashed 7 fours and 8 sixes in his brilliant innings. Abhishek Sharma and Gaikwad added 137 runs for the 2nd wicket.

Rinku Singh joined in with Ruturaj Gaikwad smashing the Zimbabwe bowlers all over the park. Both added 87 runs for the 3rd wicket that helped India post the highest T20I score at Harare Sports Club of 234.

Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan took 3 wickets as they never allowed Zimbabwe batters to score runs easily. Ravi Bishnoi continued his superb form, picking 2 for 11 to bowl out the hosts for 134 in 18.4 overs.

Abhishek Sharma showed his array of strokes against the spin bowlers after a slowish start to the innings. India won the match by 100 runs to level the series at 1-1.

India and Zimbabwe will take on each other in the 3rd T20I match on 10th July 2024. It promises to be a good contest between bat and ball.
