Paris Olympics 2024 Hockey: India and Argentina Split One Point Each

 India and Argentina played out a thrilling 1-1 draw in their second Group B match of the men’s hockey competition of the Paris Olympics played in Paris on 29th July 2024.

The Indian hockey team put enough pressure with aggressive moves but the Argentina defense stood tall. Abhishek missed a golden chance as it hit the goalpost. Argentina earned the first penalty corner of the day but the shot went wide. At the end of the first quarter, scores remained 0-0.

India began the second quarter on a positive note with two penalty corners but was well saved by Argentina goalkeeper Santigo. Lucas Martinez scores a brilliant field goal in the 22nd minute to give Argentina a 1-0 lead in the tie. Argentina played better hockey during the first two quarters with 1 penalty corner while India earned four penalty corners.

The third quarter began with Argentina goalkeeper Santigo saving a superb shot by Abhishek. India conceded a penalty corner with a turnover. The umpire took their own review as Argentina was awarded a penalty stroke. Casella hit the shot wide off the goalpost.

It was a great end-to-end hockey as Argentina tried to double the lead while India earned penalty corners which went in vain. At the end of the third quarter, Argentina led by 1-0.

India missed a few chances in the initial stages of the fourth quarter. Argentina goalkeeper Santigo was superb with brilliant saves that kept Harmanpreet Singh and Co not equalizing the scores. With 3 minutes left in the match, India was awarded a penalty corner for a level-1 offense.

Harmanpreet Singh could not convert the first two penalty corners. The Indian captain Singh scored with a powerful drag flick in the 59th minute with a deflection from Argentina's defense to level the scores at 1-1. P Sreejesh came back after they decided to take away the goalkeeper. It was a great effort as India earned 1 point after a 3-2 win over New Zealand.

India now has 4 points in the 2 matches they played so far. They will now play Ireland in their third match tomorrow.

  The defending Champions India registered a commanding win in the 2 nd semi-finals against South Korea of the Asian Champions Trophy 2024 played in Hulunbir, Inner Mongolia on 16 th September. Indian team began the first quarter on a good note with Abhishek's reverse flick shot saved by Korean goalkeeper Kim Jahean. After the initial domination, a superb pass by Arijit with a goal by Uttam Singh in the 13 th minute to give India a 1-0 lead.   The defending Champions England qualified for the semi-finals with a thrashing of the USA in a must-win game played at Kensington Oval, Barbados on 23 rd June 2024. England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and decided to field first. Reece Topley struck in the first over dismissing Andries Gous with a simple catch to Salt. Nitish Kumar and Steve Taylor steadied the ship for the USA. Sam Curran dismissed Steve Taylor caught by Moeen Ali. Taylor and Nitish Kumar added 34 runs for the 2 nd wicket.
