Asian Champions Trophy 2024: India Registers Their Second Successive Win
The Indian
Men’s Hockey team continued their winning run as they defeated Japan in their
second match of the Asian Champions Trophy 2024 played at Hulunbir, Inner
Mongolia, China on 9th September.
Indian Team
began off to a superb start as Sukhjeet Singh and Abhishek scored two field
goals in the 2nd minute itself. They kept the pressure on the
Japanese defense with attacking moves. Japan got the first real chance with a
penalty corner, but the shot was wasted. They got another PC, but the shot was
saved by Krishna Pathak. At the end of the first quarter, the scores remained
2-0 for India.
Harmanpreet
Singh was off the field as Sanjay converted the penalty corner in the 17th
minute to give India a commanding 3-0 lead. Japan earned their 3rd PC,
but the shot was well saved by Suraj Kakera. The Indian defense was up to the
mark as they did not allow the Japanese to score any goals. India ended the
first half with a commanding 3-0 lead.
India began
the third quarter on an aggressive note, but the Japanese goalkeeper made an
excellent save. Vivek Sagar Prasad missed a goal as the shot hit the goalpost before
the counterattack by the Japanese forward did not yield any result. Kazumasa
Matsumoto scored a brilliant field goal in the 41st minute to reduce
the scoreline to 1-3.
It was an
aggressive start by the Indian team in the fourth quarter with Abhishek missing
a golden chance, but the shot went wide off the goalpost. Jarmanpreet Singh
gave a brilliant pass with Uttam Singh scoring a brilliant goal in the 55th
minute giving India a dominating 4-1 lead. Soon after, India earned a penalty
corner which was well saved by the Japanese goalkeeper.
Raheel’s
first shot was well saved by the Japanese Goalkeeper, rebound shot went
wide off the goal. Yuki Chiba could not convert the field goal with a good pass by
the Japanese player. Rajkumar Pal snatches the ball with Sukhjeet Singh smashes
a powerful shot into a goal in the 60th minute to help India finish
with a 5-1 scoreline.
India remained
at the top with 6 points with a goal difference of plus 7. They will now play
Malaysia on 11th September 2024.
