Asian Champions Trophy 2024: India Finish League Stage With A Win
The Indian
men’s hockey team won a closely fought final league game against arch-rivals
Pakistan played at Hulunbir, Inner Mongolia on 14th September 2024.
Pakistan
got off to a great start with a couple of great chances in the initial minutes
of the first quarter. Hannan Shahid passes the ball to Ahmad Nadeem scoring
from close range in the 7th minute to give them a 1-0 lead. Ajaz
Ahmed was awarded a green card which meant Pakistan was down to 10 men.
Harmanpreet
Singh scored from a brilliant penalty corner low down Pakistan goalkeeper in
the 13th minute to level the scores at 1-1. At the end of the first
quarter, the score remained 1-1.
It was an excellent
start for the Indian team in the second quarter as Harmanpreet Singh converted
the second penalty corner in the 19th minute to give a 2-1 lead. The
Indian defense looked solid before Pakistan earned a penalty corner before the
final hooter of the first half.
The third
quarter began well for the Indian team as they earned a penalty corner which
was well blocked by the Pakistan defense. Pakistan put sustained pressure on the
Indian defense with penalty corners but did not yield any results. Krishna
Pathak was superb at protecting the goals. Pakistan went down to 10 men as
Sufiyan with a yellow card. At the end of the third quarter, the scores remained
2-1 in favor of India.
India
started the fourth quarter brilliantly with a penalty corner. Harmanpreet Singh’s
shot was well saved by Hamauddin on the goal line. Ashraf Rana was awarded a 10-minute
suspension to Jugraj Singh. Indian attack was not able to score goals as the Pakistan
defense was solid enough.
Manpreet
Singh went off the field for five minutes. Harmanpreet Singh’s two goals ensured
that India ended the league stage with 5 out of 5 wins.

semi-finalists for the Asian Champions Trophy 2024 have been announced. India
finished at the top of the points table with 5 out of 5 wins.
Pakistan
finished 2nd with 2 wins, 1 loss & 2 draws. South Korea ended
the league stage with 1 win, 1 loss and 3 draws. China finished with 3 losses
and 2 wins.
