Asian Champions Trophy 2024: Indian Team Qualify For Semi-Finals
The Indian
Men’s Hockey Team continued their winning form with a resounding win over
Malaysia in 3rd match of the Asian Champions Trophy 2024 played in Hulunbir,
Inner Mongolia on 11th September 2024.
It was a
superb start for the defending Champions India as Raj Kumar Pal scored a superb
field goal in the 3rd minute to give a 1-0 lead. Arijit Singh Hundal put
past the Malaysian goalkeeper with an excellent field goal in the 6th
minute to make it 2-0 in favor of India. Jugraj Singh produced a superb penalty
corner goal immediately which showed their domination over Malaysia. Malaysian
forwards could not create chances in the first quarter. At the end of the first
quarter, India led 3-0.
Malaysia
began the second quarter on a positive note with a penalty corner. The penalty
corner was saved by Suraj Kakera and India went counter-attack earning a PC of
their own. After 2 back-to-back penalty corners, Harmanpreet Singh scored his
first goal this tournament in the 22nd minute to make it 4-0. Sukhjeet
Singh was awarded a green card meaning a 2-minute suspension. Raj Kumar Pal scored from the rebound save by the
Malaysian goalkeeper in the 24th minute to lead India’s domination
with a 5-0 lead. India ended the first half with a dominating scoreline of 5-0.
Indian team
began from where they left from the first half as Raj Kumar Pal scored his hattrick
with a lovely field goal in the 33rd minute to make it 6-0. Malaysia
finally got on the scoresheet as Akhimullah Anur scored from a rebound shot
that went past Krishna Pathak in the 34th minute. Malaysia earned a penalty
corner which was saved easily by Pathak.
Arijit Singh
Hundal scored a superb field goal in the 39th minute which led India
to a commanding 7-1 lead. Uttam Singh put on an excellent display with another
field goal in the 40th minute to make it 8-1. At the end of the
first third quarter, the score remained 8-1.
The fourth
quarter did not see much action as the Malaysian team tried their best to put
pressure on the Indian defense. Indian team showed their domination winning
with a big scoreline of 8-1.
With this
win, India became the first team to qualify for the Asian Champions Trophy
semi-finals. They will now play South Korea in their next match on 12th
September 2024.
