Ind vs Bang 1st 2nd Day: India In A Commanding Position
The Indian
Cricket Team ended the 2nd day in a strong position with a solid
bowling performance bundling out Bangladesh cheaply at M Chidambaram Stadium,
Chennai on 20th September 2024.
Starting on
the overnight score of 339 for 6, Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed with a lovely
delivery by Taskin Ahmed without adding any runs to his overnight score. Akash
Deep Singh provided some support to R Ashwin keeping the scoreboard ticking.
Shakib AL Hasan dropped a simple chance. Taskin Ahmed struck for the second
time dismissing Akashdeep with an easy catch at slips by Shanto. R Ashwin’s
superb innings ended by Shanto at mid-off. Hasan Mahmud got his fifth wicket
dismissing Bumrah caught by Zakir Hasan to bundle out India for 376.
India got
off to a great start as Bumrah produced a peach to dismiss Shadman Islam.
Mohammed Siraj bowled with control not allowing the Bangladesh batters to score
runs easily. Siraj could have got the wicket as he decided not to review the LBW
decision by getting rid of Zakir Hasan. Akashdeep Singh struck off two
successive deliveries dismissing Zakir Hasan and Mominal Haque to leave
Bangladesh in tatters. Bangladesh went into the lunch break at 26 for 3.
After the
lunch break, Indian pace bowlers showed their class as Siraj dismissed
Bangladesh captain Shanto with a simple catch to Kohli at slips. Bumrah
produced another superb delivery to dismiss Mushfiqur Rahim caught by KL Rahul
at slips to leave Bangladesh in deep trouble. Litton Das and Shakib AL Hasan
provided some resistance with positive intent keeping Indian bowling at bay. Rohit
Sharma’s field placement was brilliant as Jadeja dismissed Das with a lovely
catch by substitute Dhruv Jurel at deep square leg. Das and Shakib added 51
runs for the 6th wicket. Soon after, Jadeja struck again dismissing
Shakib AL Hasan trying to hit a reverse sweep hitting the boot straight to
Pant’s hands leaving Bangladesh in dire trouble.
At the
stroke of tea break, Bumrah dismissed Hasan Mahmud with a simple catch to Kohli
at slips to leave Bangladesh in deep trouble at 112 for 8.
Bumrah
looked threatening with his bowling by producing a superb yorker to dismiss
Taskin Ahmed. Mehidy Hasan Miraz showed his skills against top-quality Indian
bowling brilliantly. Siraj struck with his first ball of the new spell dismissing
Nahid Rana taking an inside edge onto the stumps to bundle out Bangladesh for
149. For India, Bumrah took 4 wickets, while Jadeja, Siraj& Akashdeep Singh
took 2 wickets each.
Indian
captain Rohit Sharma decided not to enforce the follow on. Rohit Sharma’s
failure in the second innings continued with a good catch by Zakir Hasan at
third slips. Shubman Gill played some brilliant shots keeping the scoreboard
ticking. After the fall of Jaiswal’s wicket, Kohli showed resolve with his
solid defensive technique. Kohli decided not to review the decision as it hit the inside edge. Kohli and Gill added 39 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Pant showed
his class with some positive strokes against Shakib AL Hasan. India ended the 2nd
day at 81 for 3 leading by 308 runs. Nahid Rana, Taskin Ahmed & Mehidy
Hasan Miraz took 1 wicket each.
India 376 in 91.2 overs (R Ashwin 113, Jadeja
86, Hasan Mahmud 5/83, Taskin Ahmed 3/55) and 81 for 3 in 23 overs (Gill 33*, Nahid
Rana 1/12) lead Bangladesh 149 in 47.1 overs (Shakib AL Hasan 32, Bumrah 4/50)
by 308 runs.
