SL vs NZ 1st Test: Sri Lanka Announce Playing XI For The First Test

 

The Sri Lankan Cricket Team for the first test match against New Zealand has been announced to be played at Galle International Stadium, Galle from 18th September onwards.

Dhananjaya de Silva will be high on confidence as they stunned in the 3rd test match against England at Kennington Oval, London last week. These two fixtures are a part of the 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship cycle.

Dimuth Karaunate and Pathum Nissanka would open the innings for Sri Lanka. Nissanka had a dream encounter against England with 64 and an unbeaten 129 that helped the visitors chase down the highest target by an Asian team in England.

Vishwa Fernando and Milne Rathyanke have been dropped from the playing XI that they played in the 3rd test against England.

Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal &Dhananjaya de Silva would be middle order while Kamindu Mendis might get a chance to get a chance batting up the order.  

The pace bowling options consist of Lahiru Kumara &Ashita Fernando while Prabath Jayasuriya& Ramesh Mendis would be the spin bowling options for the first test against New Zealand.

Important Matches For Sri Lanka in WTC 2023-25

The two test matches against New Zealand at Galle International Stadium would be of utmost importance regarding the qualification for the finals of the 2023-25 World Test championship cycle.

After their win over England in the 3rd test at Kennington Oval, London, Sri Lanka is currently in the 5th position with 42.86%. They need to win these matches to stay in contention for the WTC finals to be played in Lords next year.
