India Open 2025 Day 3: Three Indians Enter Quarterfinals
The Indian
shuttlers had a decent outing with three of them making into the quarterfinals
of the Super 750 Indian Open played at KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium, New Delhi on
16th January 2025.
The women’s
doubles pairing of Rituparna Panda/Shweta Panda suffered a straight-game loss to
Baek HN and Lee S-h. It was a dominating performance by the Korean pair as they
looked in complete control, winning the match by 21-6, 21-7.
Tanisha
Crasto/Ashwini Ponnappa struggled losing to Fukushima/Matsumoto in two straight
games. The first game was a one-sided affair as the Japanese won with a
scoreline of 21-9. Indian pairing of Crasto/Ponnappa gave a tough for the
Japanese in the second game, but Fukushima/Matsumoto held onto their nerves to
win it by 23-21.
The mixed
doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila/Tanisha Crasto suffered a straight-game loss to Midorikawa/Saito
of Japan with a scoreline of 18-21, 17-21.
Kiran
George stunned Alex Lanier of France in two straight games. The first game saw
Lanier showing his domination, keeping the pressure on George. After the break,
Lanier kept the pressure on the Indian and looked to take the first game. George
showed great fighting spirit to save 6 match points levelling the scores at
20-20. World number 38, George won the first game 22-20.
The second
game saw Lanier have a great start before George made another strong comeback. At
the mid-game break, the French took a slender 11-10 lead. George kept the
pressure on the French keeping the momentum winning the second game easily by
21-13 to move into his first quarterfinals above 500 level. He will face Weng H
Y of China.
PV Sindhu
cruised past her Japanese opponent Suizu in straight games. The first game saw the
Indian keeping the pressure. After the break, Suizu tried her best, but Sindhu
registered a comfortable 21-15 win. It was a dominating performance from the former
World Champion, in the second game with attacking shots. At the mid-game break,
Sindhu had a commanding 11-2 lead. It was a great performance by the Indian winning
the second game comfortably by 21-13 to move into the quarterfinals. She will
face Tungjung of Indonesia.
The men’s
doubles pairing of Satwik/Chirag Shetty registered a thrilling three-game win
over Kenya Mitsuhashi and Okamura. Both pairs fought for each point right from
the word go. Satwik/Chirag played attacking badminton putting the Japanese
under immense pressure. At the mid-game break, the Indian pairing led 11-9. After
the break, Satwik/Chirag looked in complete control with a 17-13 before the Japanese
pair made a strong comeback by taking points to level the scores at 19-19. Mitsuhashi/Okamura
held onto their nerves winning the first game 22-20.
The second
game saw the Japanese pairing starting of brightly. Satwik/Chirag made a strong
comeback to take an 11-7 lead at the break. After the break, the Indian pairing
dominated the play winning the second game with a scoreline of 21-14.
Mitsuhashi/Okumura
made a bright start to the third game with a 4-1 lead. Satwik/Chirag played
aggressive badminton keeping the Japanese under immense pressure to take an
11-7 lead at the break. Despite their efforts, Satwik/Chirag won the decider by
21-16 to move into the quarterfinals.
