Ranji Trophy 2024/25 Final Day 3: Match Heading Towards An Exciting Finish

 

It was an exciting third day’s play of the 2024/25 Ranji Trophy finals played between Vidarbha and Kerala at VCA Stadium, Jamtha on 28th February 2025.

Starting on the overnight score of 131 for 3, Kerala captain Sachin Baby and Aditya Sarwate kept the scoreboard ticking with lovely shots. Vidarbha created chances with disciplined bowling not allowing them to score runs easily. Harsh Dubey got the breakthrough dismissing Sarwate with a simple catch to Malewar at a silly point. Sarwate and Sachin Baby added 63 runs for the 4th wicket.

Salman Nazir showed intent against the Vidarbha bowlers along with captain Sachin Baby. Sachin kept his composure reaching his fifty off 102 deliveries. Right at the stroke lunch break, Harsh Dubey wrapped Salman Nazir with a peach. Nazir decided to review, and it was retained as out. Salman Nazir and Baby added 49 runs for the 5th wicket. Kerala went into the lunch break at 219 for 5.

After the lunch break, Kerala captain Sachin Baby survived an LBW shout. The umpire gave out, on review it was overturned to not out as there was an inside edge onto the bat. Mohammed Azharudden also was given out by the umpire, it was overturned to not out. Sachin Baby and Azharudden showed intent keeping the scoreboard ticking with attacking shots not allowing the Vidarbha bowlers to settle.

Vidarbha captain Karun took the second new ball in the 93rd over. Nalkande produced the magical wicket getting rid of Azharudden right before tea break. Azharudden and Baby put on 59 runs for the 6th wicket. At the end of the 2nd session, Kerala scored 298 for 6.

The third session began well for Kerala as Sachin Baby and Jalaj Saxena showed intent keeping the scoreboard ticking by hitting some brilliant shots. Kerala captain Sachin Baby could not control his shot providing a simple catch to Karun Nair for well deserved century. Baby and Saxena added 46 runs for the 7th wicket.

Jalaj Saxena was dismissed by Rekhade trying to hit a sweep shot, going behind the bat. Harsh Dubey produced another peach to get rid of M Nideesh. Eden Tom Apple and Basil Thampi could not manage as Rekhade dismissed Eden Tom. Kerala scored 342 in their first innings giving Vidarbha 37 runs lead.

Vidarbha 379 in 123.1 overs (Danish Malewar 153, Karun Nair 86, Nachiket Bhute 32, M Nideesh 3/61, Eden Apple Tom 3/102) lead Kerala 342 in 125 overs (Sachin Baby 98, Azharudden 34, Harsh Dubey 3/ 88, Rekhade 3/65, Darshan Nalkande 3/52) by 37 runs.
