WPL 2025 Match 2: Delhi Capitals Beat Mumbai Indians In A Thrilling Contest

Delhi Capitals started their WPL 2025 campaign with a thrilling last-ball contest against Mumbai Indians played at Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara on 15th February.

Delhi Capitals captain Meg Lanning won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start for DC as Shikha Pandey got rid of Hayley Mathews in the very first over with a lovely catch by Lanning. Nat Sciver Brunt showed intent by putting on DC bowlers keeping the scoreboard ticking. Shikha Pandey struck again to dismiss Yastika Bhatia with a lovely delivery. Yastika and Brunt added 32 runs for the 2nd wicket.

At the end of the first six overs, Mumbai Indians made 41 for 2. After the field restrictions, Kaur put enough pressure with lusty hits against Radha Yadav. Annabel Sutherland struck dismissing MI captain Kaur by providing a simple catch to Niki Prasad at a deep backward point. Kaur and Brunt added 73 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Nat Sciver Brunt looked impressive, reaching her fifty off just 36 deliveries. Amelia Kerr was run out in an unfortunate manner as it hit the hand of Minnu Mani on the non-striker end. Delhi Capitals kept picking wickets at regular intervals while Nat Sciver Brunt remained not out on 80. It was a disciplined bowling effort by DC bowlers as they bundled out MI for 164 in 19.1 overs.

Chasing down 165 runs to win, Shafali Varma showed intent right from the word go putting pressure on Saika Ishaque smashing 22 runs in an over. She looked in sublime touch hitting boundaries with ease. On the other hand, Meg Lanning struggled with her timing. Shafali Varma’s quickfire knock ended providing a simple catch to Amanjot Kaur at midwicket. Varma and Lanning added 60 runs for the opening wicket.

Shabnim Ismail produced a peach to dismiss Meg Lanning. Mumbai Indians made a strong comeback as Amelia Kerr got the big wicket of Jemimah Rodrigues caught by Harmanpreet Kaur at covers. Sciver Brunt dismissed Annabel Sutherland to leave Delhi Capitals in big trouble.

Niki Prasad looked impressive on her debut WPL knock, keeping the scoreboard ticking. Kerr struck an important blow dismissing Alice Capsey providing an easy catch to Shabnim Ismail at long-on.  Niki and Capsey added 33 runs for the 5th wicket.

Sarah Bryce making her WPL debut looked in great touch hitting some vital runs with boundaries keeping the momentum going along with Niki Prasad. Hayley Mathews got a much-needed breakthrough dismissing Sarah caught by Kalita.  Sarah and Niki Prasad added 31 runs for the 6th wicket.

Shikha Pandey was run out with a brilliant throw by Sajana and gathered by Yastika Bhatia. Radha Yadav hit an important six against Saika Ishaque.
