WPL 2025 Match 5: Top 3 Performers Between Mumbai Indians And Gujarat Giants

 Mumbai Indians registered their first victory of the WPL 2025 with a dominating win over Gujarat Giants played at Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara on 18th February.

It was an impressive bowling performance by Mumbai Indians as they bundled out Gujarat Giants for 120. MI bowlers rattled GG during the first six overs and kept picking wickets at regular intervals.

Nat Sciver Brunt looked impressive with second successive fifty before getting out. S Sajana hit the winning runs to help MI register a 5-wicket win with 23 balls to spare.

Here we look at the Top 3 performers for Mumbai Indians In Their First Victory Over Gujarat Giants during match 5 of WPL 2025.

1.      Hayley Mathews

Hayley Mathews had a dream outing in the match against Gujarat Giants. She took the wicket of Dayalan Hemalatha during the first six overs. Mathews kept tight lines and lengths not allowing Gujarat Giants to score runs easily.

She got rid of Kashvee Gautam with a simple catch to Amelia Kerr at deep midwicket. Mathews then dismissed Simran Sheikh ending with figures of 3 for 16 in 4 overs. It was a disciplined bowling effort as Mumbai Indians bundled out GG for 120.

Mathews showed intent right from the word go in the chase. She scored a quickfire 17 off 14 deliveries making sure that MI starts on a good note. For her all-around efforts, Hayley Mathews was named the player of the match.

2.      Nat Sciver Brunt

Chasing down a modest total of 121 runs to win, Brunt came to the crease after the loss of Mathew's wicket. She looked in sublime touch putting GG bowlers under immense pressure. Despite MI losing wickets of Yastika Bhatia and Harmanpreet Kaur cheaply, Brunt showed her batting skills reaching fifty off 33 deliveries. She was dismissed by Priya Mishra taking an inside edge onto the stumps.

Brunt scored 57 off 39 deliveries with 11 boundaries. She and Kerr added 45 runs for the 4th wicket ensuring that MI won the match by 5 wickets with 23 balls to spare.

3.      Kashvee Gautam

Kashvee Gautam had a decent outing with both bat and ball against Mumbai Indians. She came at the crease with Gujarat Giants in trouble at 43 for 5. Gautam played with attacking shots with a quickfire 20 off 15 deliveries.

Gautam proved her worth with the ball also. She dismissed Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur in front of stumps. The youngster delivered again getting rid of Kerr ending 45 runs for the 4th wicket.

Gautam ended with reasonable figures of 2 for 15 in 3 overs. Despite her efforts, Gujarat Giants lost the match by five wickets.
