IPL 2025 Match 9: Gujarat Titans Continue Their Winning Streak Against MI

 

Gujarat Titans registered their opening win of IPL 2025 with a resounding 36-run win over Mumbai Indians at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 29th March.

MI captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to field first. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan got the team to a flying start putting pressure on Trent Boult & Deepak Chahar. Sai and Gill kept the momentum going for GT not allowing MI bowlers to settle. At the end of the first six overs, GT openers raced to 66 for 0.

Hardik Pandya produced the magic dismissing GT captain Gill with a simple catch to Naman Dhir. Gill and Sudharsan added 78 runs for the opening wicket. Jos Buttler looked impressive with his shots against Santer and pacers keeping the momentum going for GT.

After the second timeout, Mujeeb struck getting rid of Buttler with a good catch by Rickleton. Buttler and Sai added 51 runs for the 2nd wicket. Sai looked calm, reaching his fifty off 33 deliveries. Sai and Sherfane Rutherford looked good with attacking shots keeping the scoreboard ticking. Boult produced a superb yorker to dismiss Sai. Sai and Rutherford added 33 runs for the 4th wicket.

Mumbai Indians bowlers made a strong comeback with wickets at regular intervals. They had a penalty in the last over for finishing overs in time. Gujarat Titans finished with a score of 196 for 8.

Mohammad Siraj got Gujarat Titans to a perfect start by dismissing Rohit Sharma with beauty. Siraj then dismissed Ryan Rickleton leaving Mumbai Indians in trouble. It was a disciplined bowling effort by GT bowlers not allowing them to score runs easily. At the end of the first six overs, MI made 48 for 2.

Ishant Sharma came as an impact player for Sherfane Rutherford. Tilak Varma & Suryakumar Yadav tried to steady the innings against disciplined GT bowling. Prasidh Krishna got the much-needed scalp dismissing Tilak Varma with a good catch by Rahul Tewaita. Tilak and Surya added 62 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Gujarat Titans kept picking wickets at regular intervals, not allowing them to score runs with ease. Mitchell Santer & Naman Dhir provided some resistance as they added 36 unbeaten runs for the 7th wicket. Gujarat Titans won the match with 36 runs to register the first points of IPL 2025. With this win, GT climbed to the third place in the points table.  

For his superb spell of 2 for 18 in 4 overs, Prasidh Krishna was named the player of the match award.

GT 196 for 8 in 20 overs (Sai Sudharsan 63, Jos Buttler 39, Hardik Pandya 2/29) beat MI 160 for 6 in 20 overs (Suryakumar Yadav 48, Tilak Varma 39, Prasidh Krishna 2/18, Siraj 2/34) by 36 runs.
