Hero Men’s Hockey Asia Cup 2025 Super 4: India Register Dominating Win Over Malaysia
The Indian
men’s hockey team registered a dominating 4-1 win over Malaysia in their second
Super 4 stage match played at Rajgir Sports Complex, Rajgir on 4th
September 2025.
Malaysia
got off to an ideal start as Shafiq Hasan scored a brilliant field goal going
past Krishna Pathak at the bottom corner in the 2nd minute of the
game. Indian team did not create any opportunities as Malaysian defense solid
enough. At the end of the first quarter, Malaysia led 1-0.
The second quarter
began on a positive note with five penalty corners in a row. India converted
from the fifth PC with save by Malaysian goalkeeper and then rebound shot by Manpreet
Singh in 17th minute to level the scores at 1-1. A good pass from
Shailand Lakra and first time shot by Sukhjeet Singh in 19th minute
giving India 2-1 lead. Sukhjeet Singh was awarded 2-minute suspension. Shailand
Lakra scored from brilliant pass from the edge of circle in the 24th
minute to give the home team 3-1 scoreline. At the end of the first half, the
scores remained 3-1 for Team India.
Malaysia
began the third quarter on a good note with back-to-back penalty corners but it
was defended brilliantly. India kept the ball superbly with ball possession keeping
Malaysia under pressure. Jugraj Singh penalty corner hits the post before Vivek
Sagar Prasad tapped during the 37th minute to give India commanding
4-1 lead. The Indian team showed great composure with positive moves not
allowing any chances for Malaysian side. At the end of the 3rd quarter,
India had a commanding 4-1 lead.
The fourth
quarter did not see any action with Indian defence looking solid not allowing
Malaysia any chances. Indian team got one or two chances but unable to convert
into goals. India came back from behind to register 4-1 win.
With this
win, India topped the points table including 1 win and 1 draw. India and
Malaysia have 3 points each but due to better goal difference with +3, India is
currently at the top of points table.
India will face
China in their last Super 4 stage match on 6th September 2025. They
would look to win that match and qualify for the finals.
