Hong Kong Open Badminton 2025: Indian Shuttlers Perform Well
It was a
good outing for the Indian shuttlers as most of them made into the 2nd
round of the Super 500 Hong Kong Open played on 10th September 2025.
Lakshya Sen
goes through to the second round with a three-set win over Chinese Taipei Wang.
Wang began first game on a positive note putting pressure on Sen taking 11-7
lead at the break. After the break, Sen fought back strongly to reduce the gap.
Both players fought for each point before the Indian showed fighting spirit winning
first game at 22-20.
The second
game went on a similar script with Wang showing his aggressive mindset keeping
Sen under pressure. At the mid-game break, Wang took a 11-7 lead. After the
break, the Indian kept fighting before his opponent won the second game at 21-16.
Both
players started on an even keel in the third game before Sen fought back
strongly with smashes not allowing any chances for Wang. From 11-11 onwards,
Sen never looked back winning the decider by 21-15 to move into the second
round.
HS Prannoy
looked impressive winning against Lu of China in two straight games. Prannoy
started on aggression right from the word go before Lu showed fighting spirit. It
was a closely fought affair before the Indian took first game at 21-17.
The second
game saw Prannoy increase the tempo of the game with smashes not allowing any
chances for his opponent. After the break, Prannoy maintained lead and won with
comfortable 21-14 scoreline. Lakshya Sen and Prannoy will face each other in
the 2nd round.
Kiran
George stunned higher ranked Jason Teh of Singapore in two straight games. He
looked impressive right from word go and maintained pressure on Singapore
player winning with 21-16, 21-11 scoreline. Geroge will take on Chou Tien Chen
of Chinese Taipei.
Ayush
Shetty produced stunning performance beating L Y Su of Chinese Taipei in three
games. The first game saw Su dominating with smashes and not allowing any
chances for Ayush before winning it at 21-15.
The second
game saw closely fought affair from both players right from the word go taking
alternate points. At the break, Ayush led 11-10 before match right down the
wire before winning it 21-19.
Ayush
Shetty looked in sublime touch right from word go not allowing any chances for
his opponent. It was one-way traffic as Ayush won the third set by 21-13 to
move into the second round. He will face Kodai Naraoka of Japan.
The women’s
singles section saw PV Sindhu suffering three set loss to unseeded Denmark player
Line Christophen.
Sindhu started
the first game taking an early lead before Christophen level the scores at 5-5.
After the break, the match ebbed and flowed before Sindhu showed her class to
win the first game at 21-15.
The second
game looked impressive for Sindhu putting pressure on her Denmark opponent.
After the break, Indian looked good before errors kept creeping giving away
five points in a row. Line took the advantage winning second game by 21-16.
Both
players began the third game taking alternate points. The match went right down
the wire till 19-19 before Sindhu struggled to close the game losing by 19-21.
Anupama Upadhyay
went down fighting to Tomoyka Miyazaki of Japan in three games. The Indian
began the first game on the front foot putting pressure on Japanese before
Miyazaki fought back strongly to take first game at 21-17.
Miyazaki
started the second game with aggressive mindset taking points in succession
early before Anupama fought back strongly winning the second game at 22-20.
It was
one-way traffic as Miyazaki upped the game not allowing any chances for Anupama
winning it easily by 21-14.
