Women’s Asia Cup 2025: India Qualify For The Finals Despite 1-1 Draw

 

The Indian women’s hockey team entered into the finals of Asia Cup tournament after hosts China defeated South Korea by 1-0 played at Hangzhou on 13th September 2025.

It was an aggressive start for the Indian team as they kept the Japanese defense under immense pressure. Beauty scored a brilliant field goal in 7th minute to give Indian team a 1-0 lead. India kept the pressure on the Japanese despite scoring a goal quickly. At the end of the first quarter, India led 1-0.

The second quarter began well for the Japanese team as they earned penalty corner but was not able to convert into a goal. Japan kept the pressure but the Indian defense looked solid enough. It was a good contest between both sides as India ends the first half with 1-0 scoreline.

Japan continued to dominate the game in the third quarter but not able to level the scores. Indian team earned penalty corner but Nishikori was hit on the arm and stretched off the field due to that nasty injury. Indian team missed multiple close chances of scoring goals but not able to convert it.

Rutuja went off field due to a green card meaning 2-minute suspension. Indian team scored a goal but was disallowed because it was hit outside the circle and no deflection. Indian defense looked solid and did not allow Japanese to score a goal. At the end of the third quarter, the scores still remain 1-0.

The fourth quarter saw the Japanese attacking but the Indian defense looked solid denying them the equalizer. There was little stop of play due to thundering and lighting.

Indian team awarded two penalty corners, but could not convert both of them. They continued to maintain the pressure on Japanese team with penalty corners. Japanese goalkeeper Tanaka saved a superb drag-flick to deny Indian team the second goal.

Japan removed the goalkeeper Tanaka with 11 outfield players. Kobayakawa Shiho scored a superb field goal with stunning pass Amiru Shimada in the 58th minute to level the scores at 1-1.

The Indian team finished the league stage of the Super 4 stage with 4 points including 1 win, 1 draw and 1 loss. Hosts China defeated South Korea by 1-0 to allow India qualify for the finals.

India and China will fight for the gold medal, also a spot for the guaranteed direct place in the 2026 World Cup.
