Women’s Asia Cup Hockey 2025: India Drew With Japan In A Thrilling Draw

 

The Indian women’s team showed tremendous character to a thrilling 2-2 draw against Japan in the second Group B match at Hangzhou, China on 6th September 2025.

This was India’s first real test in the competition after thrashing Thailand 11-0 in the first match on Friday. Indian team started the match on a aggressive note with 2 circle penetrations but the Japanese defence did not allow to score goals. Japan got the first penalty corner of game but it was not allowed by the Indian defence.

Murayama scored the first goal for Japan with mishit shot in the 10th minute. Indian team responded with penalty corner soon but Japan defence stood strong. At the end of the first quarter, Japan led 1-0.

India began the second quarter with two back-to-back penalty corners. The third one was reviewed by Japan as the decision got overturned. Indian team showed their class with continuous attacks but Japanese goalkeeper saved every shot. Right at the stroke of first half, Rutuja Pisal scored field goal as India levelled the scores at 1-1. Indian team had 9 circle penetrations as compared to 2 by Japan.

India began the third quarter with penalty corner but Japan reviewed the decision and it was overturned. It was a great domination by the Indian team keeping possession but could not convert. At the end of the third quarter, scores till remained 1-1.

Bichu produced two lovely saves to keep the Japan strikers at bay. Japan had some close shots but could not make use of it. Japan was awarded a penalty corner; India took the review and was overturned to penalty stroke. Fujibayashi converted penalty stroke into a goal in the 58th minute making 2-1 in favour of Japan.

India was awarded a penalty corner at the hooter and Navneet scored with a powerful drag flick to make it 2-2. It was an amazing performance by the Indian team as they fought back strongly trailing on both occasions.

Indian team still occupies the top spot with a goal difference of +11 as compared to +9 of Japan. They will play their last Group match against Singapore on 8th September 2025.
