Women’s Asia Cup Hockey 2025 Super 4 Stage: Indian Women starts the Super 4 on a winning note

 

The Indian women’s hockey started the Asia Cup super-4 stage with a 4-2 win over South Korea played at Guangzhou, China on 10th September 2025.

It was an ideal start for the Indian team as Phalke scored from a penalty corner in the 2nd minute. India kept piling pressure on Korean defense despite taking an early lead. South Korean finally managed to show aggression but the Indian defence looked solid and not allowed them taking a shot. At the end of the first quarter, Indian women led 1-0.

Indian team started the second quarter with aggression creating a chance with Sunita but Korean goalkeeper along with solid defence denied India the goal. Both teams tried their best to convert goals but could not do so. At the end of first half, India still led 1-0.

Sangita Kumari made a superb start for Indian team in the 3rd quarter with superb field goal in the 33rd minute to double the lead. Soon after, South Korea converted one goal back with a penalty corner by Kim Yujin. Indian team kept pressure with consistent moves before Lalremsaimi scored field goal in the 40th minute to make it 3-1. It was an impressive performance by the Indian forwards and defense looked solid enough to deny goals. Korea was awarded a penalty corner but Bichu asked for a review, decision was overturned as hit foot of South Korea before Udita. At the end of third quarter, Indian women led 3-1.

The fourth quarter saw both teams looking for aggressive play. Park Yeongeun was awarded a green card meaning two minutes suspension.  Both teams put pressure on each other with aggressive moves. South Korea earned a penalty corner and Kim Yujin scored her 2nd goal in the 53rd minute to reduce the goal margin to 2-3.

Indian team started with aggressive move after the goal with a penalty corner. Lee Seoyeon produced superb save with low slap. Indian persistence paid off with stunning penalty corner goal by Pisal Ruturja in the 59th minute to make it beyond Korea’s reach.

Indian team looked impressive with their defence while they scored 2 goals from penalty corners. They registered 3 valuable points in the opening match of the Super 4 stage.

They will face a stern challenge China in the second Super 4 match to be played tomorrow.
