Sultan Azlan Shah 2025: India Beat Malaysia In A Thrilling Contest
The Indian
men’s hockey team registered three vital points with a thrilling win in their 3rd
match of the Sultan Azlan Shah 2025 against hosts Malaysia played at Ipoh on 26th
November.
Indian team
started the first quarter on a positive note putting pressure on the Malaysian
team. With less than 3 minutes left, Indian team awarded penalty corner but
overturned due to review by Malaysia. Kartik Selvam scored a brilliant field
goal in the 7th minute to give India 1-0 lead. Malaysia also earned
their first PC but they lost their review. Yashdeep Siwach was awarded a green
card meaning 2-minute suspension. Faizal Saari scored a lovely penalty corner
in the 14th minute to level the scores for Malaysia at 1-1 and ended
with same scoreline.
The second
quarter began with Malaysia team putting early pressure but Indian defense
remained strong and denied them the goal. Indian team took the advantage of
pressure with close range pass by Abhishek to Sukhjeet who hit reverse flick
shot inside the D in 21st minute to give India a 2-1 lead. After
that lovely goal, Indian team kept piling pressure with another PC but Malaysia
defense stood tall. Faizal Saari was awarded a green card. At the end of the
first half, India led 2-1. The first half saw India with 22 circle penetrations
as compared to 3 by Malaysia.
It was a
great start for India with a penalty corner but enable to convert it into a
goal. Jugraj Singh was awarded a green card for stick tackle. Fitri Saari helped
Malaysia level the scores at 2-2 with from centre of D in the 36th
minute. Right after that, Amit Rohidas scored from a penalty corner in 39th
minute to make it 3-2 in favour of India. Indian team went one man down with a
yellow card for Karthik Selvam. Marhan Jalil scored from a rebound penalty shot
in 45th minute make it 3-3.
The fourth
quarter saw high intensity battle from both teams but not able to convert into
goals. India was awarded penalty stroke and Sanjay converted it into a goal in
the 53rd minute to take the lead again at 4-3. Malaysia tried their
best to level scores and took their goalkeeper with extra player. Indian team
held onto their nerves winning the match by 4-3.
With this
win, Indian team moved to third place in the points table with 2 wins and 1
loss so far. They will now play against New Zealand on 27th November
2025.
