FIH Junior Hockey World Cup 2025: India’s journey in the tournament
The Indian
junior hockey team had a mixed journey in the FIH Junior world cup played in
Chennai and Madurai.
Indian team
made a great start to the tournament finishing at the top of Group B. They started
their journey with a dominating 7-0 win over Chile. Rosan Kujur, Dilraj Singh
scored 2 goals each while Ajeet, Anmol Ekka and Rohit Ekka made one goal each.
The second
match of the tournament saw India thrashing Oman by whopping 17-0 margin. Arshdeep
Singh, Manmeet Singh, Dilraj Singh scored 3 goals each, Ajeet, Gurjot Singh,
Thounaojam scored 2 goals each while Anmol Ekka and Shardanad Tiwari scored one
goal each.
The final
Group B match saw India win against Switzerland by 5-0. Manmeet Singh, Shardanad
Tiwari scored 2 goals each while Arshdeep Singh made one goal to finish the
league stage on a high.
Performance
of Indian team in the knockout stage
It was not
an ideal start for the hosts as Cornez Massant scored the first goal in the 13th
minute. The Indian team got chances but unable to convert it into goals.
Right at
the end of 3rd quarter, Rohit Ekka converted from a penalty corner
to make it 1-1. Sharnand Tiwari scored from penalty corner in the 48th
minute making it 2-1 in favor of India. Cloetens stunned India with a lovely
goal during dying minutes to allow Belgium make it 2-2 and go into the
shootouts.
The
shootouts saw Sharnand Tiwari converting the three penalty strokes while
Belgium scored first three shootouts. Manmeet Singh and Rogge missed the fourth
shots.
Princedeep
Singh made a lovely save to deny Belgium while Ankit Pal scored from last shot
as India won by 4-3 and move into the semi-finals of prestigious event.
Outplayed
by Germany in the SF
The Indian
team were completely outplayed by the defending champions Germany with 1-5
scoreline.
Kossel and
Wex scored first two goals in the first quarter to make it 2-0 in favor of
Germany. Germany continued to dominate not allowing any chances for India.
Anmol Ekka scored
the only goal for India in the 51st minute. Germany looked in
complete control to win it by 5-1.
Stunning
Comeback by India to win bronze medal
The Indian
team made a stunning comeback to win bronze medal. Rodriguez scored the first goal
for Argentina with penalty stroke in the 3rd minute giving Argentina
1-0 lead.
Indian team
got chances but not able to convert into goals. S Fernandez scored a lovely
field goal in the 44th minute as Argentina doubled the lead at 2-0.
Ankit Pal and
Manmeet Singh scored from penalty corners to make it 2-2. Sharnand Tiwari made
it 3-2 for India with a penalty stroke. Anmol Ekka converted from a penalty
corner without a goalkeeper by Argentina.
India won the bronze medal after beating Argentina by 4-2
