Malaysia Open 2026 Day 2: PV Sindhu, Satwik/Chirag Enter Round 2

 

The star Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu, Satwik/Chirag made an impressive start winning their first-round matches of the Super 1000 Malaysia Open 2026 played at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur on 7th January.

PV Sindhu returned to the court after an injury with an impressive win over Sung Sy of Chinese Taipei in two straight games. The first game was one-sided affair with Sindhu putting enough pressure on his opponent to win it easily by 21-13.

The second game was a closely fought affair as both players fought for each point before Sindhu held onto his nerves to win by 22-20. She will now face Tomoka Miyazaki of Japan.

Satwik/Chirag Shetty cruised past over Lee J h and Yang P-hs of Chinese Taipei in two straight games. The first game saw the Indian pairing putting pressure on their opponents. At the mid-game break, Satwik/Chirag had a dominating 11-5 lead. After the break, it was one-way traffic, Indian pairing won the first game by 21-13.

Lee and Yang started the second game with an initial lead before Satwik/Chirag fought back strongly to level scores at 9-9. At the mid-game break, Indian pairing took a 11-9 lead. After the break, it was one-way traffic as Satwik/Chirag won with ease by 21-15 to move into second round. They will face J Arif and Yap RK of Malaysia.

The women’s doubles pairing of Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand went down fighting to Kusuma and Puspitsairi in three thrilling games. Indian pairing looked out of sorts in the first game losing by 9-21.

It was a very closely fought affair in the second game before Indian pairing held onto their nerves to win by 23-21. Both pairs fought with zeal in the deciding game before Indonesian pairing won with scoreline of 21-19.

R Panda/S Panda lost their first-round match against P Tan and Muralitharan with 11-21, 9-21 scoreline.

1.      PV Sindhu defeated Sung SY (Women’s Singles)- 21-13, 22-20

2.      Satwik/Chirag Shetty defeated Lee J h and Yang P S(Men’s Doubles)- 21-13, 21-15

3.      Tressa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand lost to Kusuma/Pusapitri (Women’s Doubles)- 9-21, 23-21, 19-21

4.      R Panda/S Panda lost to P Tan/Muralitharan (Women’s Doubles)- 11-21, 9-21.
