Thailand Masters 2026: Devika Sihag Stuns top seed Kathenong to enter SF, other two crash out

 

There was a major upset as Devika Sihag stunned top seed Supinda Kathenong of Thailand in two straights while Tharun Mannepalli and Ishrani Burah crashed out in the quarterfinals of the Super 300 Thailand Open 2026 played at Bangkok on 30th January.

In the women’s singles, Devika Sihag stunned Supinda Kathenong in two straight games with a stunning performance. The first game was a closely fought affair with both players fighting for each point. It ebbed and flowed right down the wire before Devika held onto her nerves to win the first game by 21-19.

The second game saw both players fighting for each point before Devika played attacking badminton putting enough pressure on Supinda to take a 11-8 lead at the break. After the break, it was very close fought affair till 18-18 before Devika showed her class to win second game at 21-18 to move into the semi-finals. She will now face fifth seeded Huang of Chinese Taipei.

It was heartbreak for Ishrani Burah as she lost to Ling Ching Wong of Malaysia in three games. The first game saw Ling began initially with intent keeping the momentum before Ishrani made a strong comeback to win the first game by 21-18.

The second game Ishrani began on a positive note putting pressure on Ling. Both players fought for each point keeping momentum going before Ling showed her class to win 2nd game comfortably by 21-16.

Ishrani Burah began the deciding game on an aggressive note keeping the momentum going with a 11-7 lead at the break. After the break, Ling upped her game not allowing any chances for her opponent without giving any chances to win by 21-13.

Tharun Mannepalli suffered a straight game loss to qualifier 2 Zhu X C of China in two straight games. Tharun looked out of sorts in the first game losing by 11-21. The second game saw both players fighting for each point before Zhu fought back strongly to take the control back into the game. Despite some fight by Tharun, Zhu won with a scoreline of 21-17.

1.      Devika Sihag defeated Supinda Kathenong (Women’s Singles)- 21-19, 21-18

2.      Ishrani Burah lost to Ling Ching Wong (Women’s Singles)- 21-18, 16-21, 13-21

3.      Tharun Mannepalli lost to Zhu X C (Men’s Singles)- 11-21, 17-21.
