FIH Women’s World Cup Hockey Qualifiers 2026 Day 2: India and Scotland Share One Point Each

 

The hosts India and Scotland put on an exciting display of hockey with a 2-2 draw in their 2nd Group B match during the Women’s Hockey World cup qualifiers played at Hyderabad on 9th March 2026.

Scotland got off to perfect start as the Indian goalkeeper Bichu Devi made a superb save, but was awarded a penalty corner. McEwan Heather deflection from the penalty corner in the 6th minute gave the visitors 1-0 lead. The hosts India earned their first PC of the match soon after as drag flick went wide off the goal. It was a good performance by both teams, but Scotland ended the first quarter at 1-0.

India began the second quarter on a positive note with Navneet Kaur scoring from a penalty corner in the 17th minute to level score at 1-1. Scotland regained more possession and tried putting pressure on India. Despite lovely save by Jessica, Sunita Toppo scored from a penalty corner in the 29th minute to give India 2-1 lead. Scotland took the review, but decision stood as goal. At the end of first half, the hosts led 2-1.

The visitors Scotland began the third quarter on a superb note with lovely field goal by Fiornet Burona during 33rd minute to make it 2-2. Indian team earned successive penalty corners, but could not convert into goals. Both teams played end to end hockey trying to score the deciding, but both teams defense looked solid enough. At the end of the of 3rd quarter, scores still remained 2-2.

India earned first penalty corner of the fourth quarter, but the trapping was not great. Steiger was shown a green card meaning two-minute suspension. The Indian team could not take advantage of one person. Scotland captain Sarah Robinson was shown a green card with Steiger coming back onto the pitch.

Indian team kept pressure on Scotland defense with attacking moves. In the dying moments, India earned penalty corner but the dragflick was not proper. It was a good game of hockey as match ended in a 2-2 draw.

India are currently at number 1 spot in Group B with 4 points while Scotland also with 4 points. They will face Wales in the final match on 11th March 2026.
