Badminton Asia Championship 2026: Great Moment For Indian Badminton
There was
some great moment for Indian badminton as Ayush Shetty stuns the top seeded
Kulvanut Vitisdarn of Thailand in three thrilling games to enter finals of
Badminton Asia Championship 2026 played at Ningbo, China on 11th
April.
Top seeded
Kulvanut Vitisdarn started the first game with aggression putting Ayush Shetty
under immense pressure. It was a remarkable dominance by Vitisdarn in the first
game right from the start winning with 21-10 scoreline.
Ayush
Shetty produced a dominating display in the 2nd game with lovely
smashes and drop shots keeping Vitisdarn under pressure. At the mid-game
interval, Ayush had a commanding 11-4 lead. After the break, Vitisdarn fought
back strongly with brilliant shots. Ayush Shetty was 20-15 ahead before the top
seeded took 4 points in succession. Shetty held onto his nerves to win the second
game by 21-19.
The third game began with Ayush Shetty showing
his class with smashes and drop shots not allowing any chances for Vitisdarn in
initial stages. Vitisdarn showed glimpses before Ayush had a 11-7 lead at the interval.
After change of courts, the top seeded Vitisdarn tried to fightback into match,
but Ayush stayed strong winning decider by 21-17.
It is a
historic moment for Indian badminton as Shetty became the first shuttler after
a gap of 61 years to enter the finals of the Badminton Asia Championship event.
Dinesh Khanna won the gold medal in 1965 edition.
Shetty proved
his worth in this prestigious event consisting of top players in Asia. He
started the tournament defeating Li Shifeng, Chi Yu Jen, Jonthan Christie and
now Kulvanut Vitisdarn.
The 20 year
old Shetty will face the winner of the second semi-finals between Shi YQ and Chou
Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei tomorrow.
