Thomas Cup 2026: India Thrash Australia 5-0 To Enter Quarterfinals
The Indian badminton
team reached the quarterfinals of Thomas Cup with a resounding 5-0 win over
Australia in second Group A game played at Horsens, Denmark on 27th
April 2026.
Lakshya Sen
began with an emphatic win over E Stephen Ram in two straight games. It was a
dominating performance by Sen keeping his opponent under pressure winning with
21-14, 21-16 scoreline. The second game was a closely fought affair with Ram
providing some fight, but Sen showed his class to win it in 37 minutes.
Ayush
Shetty completely decimated S Dhand in the second singles. It was an impressive
performance by Shetty keeping Dhand under pressure and did not allow any
chances to his opponent winning with 21-8, 21-6 scoreline in just 26 minutes to
make it 2-0 in the tie.
The men’s
doubles pairing of Satwik/Chirag defeated R Hidayat and J YU in two straight
games. Hidayat and Yu gave some fight to the Indian pairing in both games. The
Indian pairing put on superb display winning by 21-14, 21-16 scoreline in 38
minutes as India took an unassailable 3-0 lead in the tie.
HS Prannoy
produced another dominating display in the third singles getting past R
Boothpathy in two straight games. Prannoy showed his class right from the word
go keeping his opponent pressure winning the first game by 21-11. Despite some
fight by Boothpathy, Prannoy proved too much as he won with 21-17 scoreline to
make it 4-0 for India.

Amsakarunan and MR Arjun registered dominating two straight game win over E Stephen
Ram/Ramadiansyah. It was an impressive performance by the Indian pairing
winning by 21-12, 21-10 scoreline to finish the tie at 5-0.
With this
win, Indian team made it into the top 8s stage along with China in Group A. India
are currently at the top as China won their match against Canada by 4-1.
Indian team
will China in their final league game to decide the table topper of Group A to
be played tomorrow.
