Thailand Open 2026 QF: Satwik/Chirag Enter SF, Other Two Crash Out
Satwik/Chirag
were the only one to enter the semi-finals while PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen lost
in Super 500 Thailand Open 2026 played at Bangkok on 15th May.
The top
seeded Indian pairing Satwik/Chirag Shetty stormed into the semi-finals with a
two straight game win over T Nomura and Y Shimogami of Japan. The first game
saw Satwik/Chirag producing a dominating performance right from the word go
putting enough pressure on the Japanese pairing with a commanding 11-1 lead at
the break. After the interval, Nomura and Shimogami tried their level best, but
Satwik/Chirag won the first game comfortably at 21-12.
The second
game was much better fight by Nomura and Shimogami with lovely shots keeping
Indian pairing under some pressure. At the mid-game break, Satwik/Chirag took
11-9 lead at the break. After the interval, the Indian pairing looked sharp and
never allowed any chances to their opponents to win by 21-13. They will face 3rd
seeded Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzudin of Malaysia.
PV Sindhu
went down fighting to the top seeded Akane Yamaguchi in three thrilling games.
The first game saw both players struggled committing unforced errors. At the
break, Sindhu had a slender 11-10 lead. After the break, the match ebbed and
flowed with both players fighting for each point before Yamaguchi hit it out to
give Sindhu the first set at 21-19.
Sindhu
started the second game with a bang putting Yamaguchi under immense pressure
with smashes and rallies. At the mid-game break, Sindhu looked to take the game
away taking a 11-7 lead. Yamaguchi stepped up her game with all out attack and
keep Sindhu under pressure. Despite good efforts by the Indian, Yamaguchi held
her nerves winning by 21-18.
Yamaguchi
started the third game with a bang putting Sindhu under pressure with an
initial 5-0 lead. Sindhu showed courage coming back keeping Yamaguchi under
pressure. At the mid-game break, Yamaguchi led 11-8. Sindhu played some lovely
badminton keeping hopes alive, but the top seeded showed her class to win by
21-15 to move into SF.
Lakshya Sen
produces a spirited performance against hosts and defending champion Kulvanut
Vitisdarn before losing in two straight games.
Vitisdarn
looked in great touch right from the word go putting on superb display of
badminton keeping Sen under immense pressure taking a commanding 11-2 lead. Sen
showed great fighting spirit in the second half of first game, as Vitisdarn
looked in complete control with 20-14 scoreline. Sen fought back strongly saving
5 game points before Vitisdarn held onto his nerves to win 21-19.
Vitisdarn
showed again his aggression keeping Sen under pressure with smashes and keeping
him severe pressure. At the mid-game break, Kulvanut took a 11-8 lead. It was
an impressive performance by Vitisdarn with solid defense taking the 2nd
game comfortably by 21-16.
