US Open Badminton 2026: Great Day For Indian Shuttlers
The Indian
shuttlers had a great day with the likes of Kidambi Srikanth, Raunak Chahuan,
Santosh Ramraj, Tanvi Sharma & Devika Sihag made it into the quarterfinals
of the Super 300 US Open badminton tournament played at California on 25th
June 2026.
The men’s
singles section saw the biggest upset as Raunak Chahuan stunned the top seed
Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in two straight games. Both players started
first game on even keel taking alternate points till 4-4 before Raunak showed
lovely skills to put Chou under pressure. Chou then fought back strongly to
level the scores at 10-10. At the mid-game break, Raunak took a slender 11-10
lead. After the break, both players continued to take alternate points till
17-17 before the young Indian took 4 points in succession taking the first game
by 21-17.
It was a solid
start for Chou Tien Chen in the 2nd game putting the Indian under
immense pressure with attacking shots making life tough. At the mid-game break,
Chou had a commanding 11-6 lead. After the interval, Chou maintained the lead
and continued to take game away before Raunak fought back strongly to level
scores at 17-17. The match ebbed and flowed right down the wire with Raunak
holding his nerves winning second game by 26-24 scoreline to move into the
quarterfinals. He will now face Misha Zilberman of Isreal.
Kidambi
Srikanth also produced a dominating performance getting rid of Lee Ji Zia of
Malaysia in two straight games. Srikanth looked in sublime touch right from the
word go putting Zia under pressure with attacking shots winning by 21-14, 21-13
to move into the quarterfinals. He will face J Liao of Chinese Taipei.
It was a
good outing for the women’s section with Tanvi Sharma, Santosh Ramraj &
Devika Sihag winning their respective 2nd round matches with ease.
Devika
Sihag registered an impressive straight game win over Tonr Saheong of Thailand.
Sihag looked in good touch keeping the Thai opponent under pressure winning
with 21-17 scoreline during the 1st game.
It was a
closely fought affair in the 2nd game as both players fought for
each point before Devika held onto her nerves to win by 21-19 to move into quarterfinals.
She will face 3rd seeded R Gunji of Japan.
Santosh
Ramraj produced a dominating performance with straight game win over Chen S-y
of Chinese Taipei. Ramraj looked in sublime touch right from word go keeping
Chen under pressure winning the first game with 21-4 scoreline.
The second
game was a closely fought affair as both players took alternate points before
Ramraj won with 21-19 scoreline. She will face R Chan of Canada in the
quarterfinals.
Tanvi
Sharma proved her worth with an impressive straight game win over Tung C-t of
Chinese Taipei. Tanvi produced a dominating performance in the first game not
allowing any chances for her opponent winning by 21-12.
The second
game was a closely fought affair as both players took alternate points as Tanvi
held onto her nerves to win by 21-19 to move into QF. She will face 2nd
seeded Line Christophen.
However, it
was curtains as the mixed doubles of D Rawat/K Maneesha lost out to Denmark K
Kolding and M Merge in three games. The first game was a closely fought affair
as both pairs fought for each point before Indian pairing won by 24-22.
The second
game also went the same way as both pairs fought for each point, but this time
Kolding and Merge held their nerves winning by 25-23.
Rawat and
Maneesha looked out of sorts in the third game as they struggled to take points
losing by 15-21 scoreline.
The women’s
doubles pairing of Tressa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand lost to S Nakade and Takahashi
of Japan in two straight games. The first game was a closely fought affair as
both pairs took alternate points before Japanese pairing won by 21-19. It was a
disappointing performance by Jolly and Gayatri not giving a fight losing with 8-21
scoreline.
