Thailand Open 2025: Performance of Indian Shuttlers in Round 1

 

The Indian shuttlers had a mixed day in round 1 matches of the Super 500 Thailand Open played at Bangkok on 14th May 2025.

Starting the session, Akarshi Kashyap defeated K Sugiyama of Japan in three thrilling games. The Indian began the first game on a positive note winning it by 21-16. It was a closely fought game with both players fighting for each point before Sugiyama won it by 22-20.

The third game was another closely fought encounter as Akarshi showed her class holding onto her nerves winning it 22-20 to move into the second round. She will face Kathenong of Thailand.

Unnati Hooda proved her worth winning against T Nithittkrai in three games. The first game saw Unnati showed aggressive intent right from word go winning with a scoreline of 21-14. The second game saw Thai player dominating in the initial stages keeping the momentum going. Hooda made a strong comeback before Nithittkrai won it 21-18.

The third game was a closely fought game right from the word go. Both players did not allow others to run away with the game. Hooda looked in trouble before holding onto her nerves winning it 23-21 to move into second round. She will face Chocuwong of Thailand.  

Malvika Bansod won against N Arin of Turkey in three games. The first game was a dominating performance by Bansod winning it comfortably by 21-12. Arin showed fighting spirit in the second game putting pressure on Bansod to win it easily by 21-13.

Arin played aggressive badminton in the initial stages of the 3rd game. After the break, Bansod made a strong comeback to keep Arin under pressure before winning with a scoreline of 21-17 to move into second round. Anupama Upadhyay suffered straight game loss to Intanon by 11-21, 9-21.

Tarun Mannepalli defeated Justin Hoh of Malaysia in two straight games. The first game was a closely fought encounter before Tarun won it by 21-19. Tarun played aggressive badminton winning the second game also with 21-16 scoreline. He will face Anders Anotsen in second round.

Lakshya Sen suffered stunning loss to Nhat Nyugen of Ireland in three games. The first game was a closely fought affair as Sen committed unforced errors before Nhat won it easily by 21-18. Sen produced a dominating performance in the second game winning with comfortable scoreline of 21-9.

The third game was another closely fought affair before Sen committed lots of unforced errors. Nhat took the advantage winning the decider game by 21-17.

Pranshu Rajawat also suffered loss to A Farhan of Indonesia in three games. The first game was a dominating performance by Farhan winning it easily by 21-13. Rajawat came back strongly in the second game to win with a scoreline of 21-17.

The third set saw Rajawat struggling in the initial stages. Farhan took a commanding 11-4 lead at the break. After the break, Rajawat made a strong comeback, but it was enough as Farhan won by 21-16.

Santosh Ramraj suffered a straight game loss to Yeo Jin Min of Singapore with scoreline of 18-21, 7-21.

P Roy and Sai Pratheek went down fighting to J Arif and Yap R K of Malaysia in three games.  The first game was a closely fought affair before Malaysian pair won with a scoreline of 22-20.

The second game was another closely fought affair, but this Roy and Pratheek won with a scoreline of 21-17. Indian pair could maintain the pressure on Arif and Yap as they lost the third game by 18-21.

Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand returned to court with a comfortable 21-15, 21-13 victory over Ong X Y and C Ting of Malaysia. They will face Hirokami and Hobara of Japan in the second round.

1.      Akarshi Kashyap defeated Sugiyama (Women’s Singles)- 21-16, 20-22, 22-20.

2.      Unnati Hooda defeated T Nithittkrai (Women’s Singles)- 21-14, 18-21, 23-21.

3.      Malvika Bansod defeated Arin (Women’s Singles)- 21-12, 13-21, 21-17

4.      Tressa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand defeated Ong X Y and C Ting (Women’s Doubles)- 21-15, 21-13

5.      Tarun Mannepalli defeated Justin Hoh (Men’s Singles)- 21-19, 21-16.

6.        Lakshya Sen lost to Nhat Nyugen (Men’s Singles)- 18-21, 21-9, 17-21

7.      Pranshu Rajawat lost to A Farhan (Men’s Singles)- 13-21, 21-17, 16-21.

8.      P Roy and S Pratheek lost to Arif and Yap (Men’s Doubles)- 20-22, 21-17, 18-21.








Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand returns to action with a commanding win in the first round of Thailand Open 2025.
