Will it be an all asian final?
After the league matches the semi finalist of the ICC world T-20 world cup 2014 has been decided. It will be Sri Lanka vs West Indies and then India vs South Africa. All the four teams have performed well in the group stages. In what was called the group of death India played well to win all the matches and West Indies lost their only match against the Indians. In the other group Sri Lanka lost only 1 match but in the final match against NewZeland they were dimissied for 119 but a quality spell by Ragana Hearth of 5 wicket for 3 runs helped them to reach the semi finals and South Africa lost only 1 match against the Sri Lankans.
India's bowling which was under the scanner before the tournament began has been on the money as they have restricted the teams to below 140. The strengths in the tournament has been the trio spinners of Jadjea, Ashwin and Mishra, also dhoni as a finisher. As we talk about the weakness the openers especailly Shikar Dhawan form has been a cause of concern and also dhoni has not able to recognize any death bowlers and X factor who has made an impact has been Amit Mishra and Yuvraj Singh who scored a 60 is the man to watch out for the other teams.
The South Africans who has only lost 1 match in the league stage. The strengths in the tournament has been Dale Styen who changed the course of the match against the newzleands with his superb bowling, the batting of opener Hashim Amla and Duminy coming back to form and their biggest weakness to choke under pressure in world events and the susceptibility to play spin. The X factor is Ab Devillers who can improvise and is the danger man for the Indians in the semi finals.
Sri Lanka who bowled brillantly against the Kiwis has been on a roll. The strengths in the tournament is their team balance, the captain can turn to anyone to deliver the goods, the batting depth which has some quality players like Dilshan, Kushal Perera, Thisara Perera, Jayawarnde and also the likes of Malinga and spinners have an impact on the game, but the weakness is the problem of plenty the captain gets muddled sometimes, X factor is Kushal perera who can give a quick start to team and Jayawarnde who averages 44.6 at a strike rate of 131.6 and the man to watch is Kulaskera who can swing the ball both ways.
West Indies who has lost only one match has been on roll since then. The strengths in the tournament has been the big hitters like Smith, Samuels, Bravo, Sammy, the spinning opion of Narine and Badree has put a lid on the batsman and has been good on chasing, the weakness is their inconsistency, X factor has been the left arm bowler Santokie and Chirs Gayle who has been not scoring runs may be the man to watch out for which can decimate the bowlers.
Both the semi finals looks well balanced but the fate of the matches will be decided how the spinners bowl and how the other bowlers support. I think India has a great chance to qualify for the finals and if Sri Lanka can stop the West Indies Batsman then we can hope for All Asian final like in 2011. The other two teams are also good teams. These two can bring a surprise and contest the finals.
