India to play for pride in hockey world cup 2014
Last time when the Indian team played in the hockey world four years ago the team India finished 8th out of the 12 teams but this team around the Indian team may came 9th or 10th in the final standings. This shows that the situation of hockey in India has come down and the Federation hockey India must take necessary steps to improve the situation.
In this year hockey world cup the expectations were that they may finish in the top 5. They went to Europe before that, but the practice must have been done in cooler place in India so that they would have been adjusted to conditions of Hague much better. India played very well in tournament despite losing 2 close matches in the dying moments of the match against the English and Belguim. The penalty conversion of India has been poor and the passing has been ok. The Indian team work on these weakness if they have compete against top sides like Netherland, Australia, Argentina, England, Germany.
In the matches against Spain the match ended in a draw 1-1and there also they missed lot of chances in the circle. The bright spot in the tournament has been Akshadeep Singh, Mandeep Singh, SV Sunil who played some excellent individual skills and the Captain Sardar Singh also did a fair job. In the match against Malaysia the Indian team dominated from the start and won the match 3-2.
In the last match India were outclassed by Australia and they had to content with 5th in the group and now have to play with South Korea for 9-10th position.
The Indian team must reflect what has gone wrong in the tournament and must train hard for the next assignment which is the Asian games and Commonwealth games. As far of this tournament is concerned the Indian missed a number of chances.
