Impact of T-20 on Indian cricket
Since the inception of T-20 cricket in 2005 the impact of T-20 format on Indian cricket has been great.
Different T-20 leagues across the world has led to many changes in the attitude
of the players. T-20 has made the batsman more fearless, play more innovative
strokes and lead many huge scores in ODI cricket. Few years back the scores of
240 to 250 in one day interantional was defendable but now with more T-20 being played the scores 300 to
350 is considered not safe. The likes of
Sanju Samson, Akshar Patel, Karun Nair and other young Indian talent have got an exspoure to play with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and learning
the tricks of game
The T-20 format especially the Indian Premier league has attracted more and more crowds in the
stadiums. The people love to see the batsman hitting fours and sixes enjoying the
match. The crowds come to watch and love to see exciting matches going to the last ball. The
T-20 format has been a criteria for the players to get selection into the
national squads. The small town boys from India are making money from the T-20
format. In test cricket the likes of Virender Sehwag has changed
the attitude of the players because they are the ones who created a postitve
mindset in other young Indian players.
The T-20 format has improved the standard of fielding. The
catching ability has raised up to a different level. In the current Indian team
Jadjea, Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rahane, Raina has set a benchmark. In ODI’s
recently the Indian team chased down the scores of 350 plus twice against Australia in 2013 at home. The Indian players
by playing more of T-20 cricket know how to play in One day international
cricket.
In T-20 in the last 1-2 the
scores of 170-180 has been par. With the World Cup 2015 in Australia and
Newzeland we can expect huge scores. The pitches overall for the One day
international has been great for the past 2-3 years.
T-20 is game where nobody knows how the games changes with
somebody playing a brilliant knock and winning the match by it’s own and this
impact has been seen in One day international and test cricket. I am sure that
with teams gearing up for the 2015 World cup and more of ODI cricket coming up
we can see some exciting few months. The Indian players have exceled in this format. Players like Raina, Kohli have been expectional.
India has participated in the T-20 world cups held 6 times since 2007. In this tournament India has won 1 once in 2007 and come up runners up in 2014. The World cup win in 2007 was a turning point for Indian cricket. Also the champions league T-20 being held since 2009 teams from South Africa, Australia, Indian Premier league teams come to participate and show their talent to the world.
