The Indian team had some fantastic players which has contributed for India becoming a such good cricketing nation. There have achievements by the Indian team in the past which made the people of India united and follow the Indian team closely.
Winning ICC tournaments
The Indian team has done the country proud by wining ICC tournaments. The first time that India lifted the a major championship was in 1983 when Kapil Dev lifted the coveted trophy against West Indies which was considered the toughest team to beat. Since then the performance at the major ICC tournaments have improved a lot. The Indian team won the ICC T-20 world cup in 2007 which nobody thought this would happen. After this the Indian team won ICC World cup tournament in 2011 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni which was icing on cake as it was last world cup for Sachin Tendulkar. In ICC champions trophy the Indian team were runners up in 2000, Joint Champions with Sri Lanka in 2002, champions in 2013 edition. Apart from this they have been champions in Asia cup 5 times ie in 1984, 1988, 1990/1991,1995 and 2010. Also in 2014 Indian team became the runners up in ICC world T-20 held in Sri Lanka. The thought process of the Indian cricket has totally changed and now it is up to young players to defend their tittle that they won in 2011. In 2014 India lost the test series 3-1 badly but when it came to ODI 's the fortune changed suddenly that India trashed England by the same margin 3-1. In 2007 it was a bad memory as India was knocked out of World cup in the first round.

The contribution of Fab five has left a huge impact on the Indian cricket. The Fab Five are Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Anil Kumble. In 2003 the Indian team reached the final world cup in South Africa.They have done wonders for the Indian cricket. All these players helped the Indian cricket to become a powerful force outside India. Winning test matches overseas is not easy. Dravid and Laxman created history by changing the fortune of the match in Calcutta in 2001. The Indian team were forced to follow-on and then these two players played one hell of the knock. Laxman scored 281 and Dravid 180. The Indians won that match. The ODI partnership of Sachin and Sourav Ganguly was great. There were few instances which India won outside India which included the series in England in 2007 under the captaincy of Rahul Dravid, winning a test in England under Sourav Ganguly, winning a test match at Adelaide in 2003. Sachin Tendulkar has been a role model for Indian youth and his records is impossible to break. Anil Kumble was exceptional with his bowling. The retirement of these greats has left a huge void and the record outside India has become very poor. Sachin Tendulkar was the first person to score a double hundred in One day International.

Cricket is a religion in India. The Indian Premier league (IPL) which began in 2008 has been a success and has gained immense popularity. It has completed 7 seasons. IPL has helped the Indian cricket a lot. The players like Yusuf Pathan, Parthiv Patel, Robin Uthappa , Ajinkya Rahane staged a comeback to national team through IPL. In the recent times Sanju Samson, Manan Vohra , Akshar Patel, Karn Shrama are the new addition for the country. Playing with and mentored by stalwarts likes of Sachin, Dravid, Sehwag, VVS Laxman,and some international players has helped these players to improve their game and head towards national selection.. The IPL has helped the batsman to improvise and innovative shots and ability to chase down huge scores easily. It has created a change in mindset among the players. They are becoming fearless and bold. The fielding standard of the Indian players has improved a lot. The involvement celebrities like Shahrukh Khan, Juhi Chawla ,Preity Zinta, Shilpa Shetty and businessmen like Ambani's, Mallya's, Reddy's , Nes Wadia, who not only invested money but also are spending time with the players during games. Mandatory inclusion of international players (4 out of 11 in each playing side) from New Zealand, Australia, West Indies, Sri Lanka and England is responsible for improving the challenge and quality of the matches , thereby providing international exposure at home for the upcoming domestic players..
