Rankings announced for Rio Olympics

In the Rio Olympics, seven Indian shuttlers will be participating in the tournament. For the first time in Olympics ,two Indian female shuttlers will take part in the competition. Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu will represent in women’s singles. Saina Nehwal who brought bronze medal in London Olympics has best chance of coming into the medals chance. While PV Sindhu will representing the country in its maiden Olympics.
After the rankings were released today , the qualifier’s in each category women’s singles, mens singles, mens doubles, womens doubles and mixed doubles were taken into account from May 4 2015 and 1st May 2016.
In the womens doubles, the pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini will be representing India in its second Olympics in August.
In mens singles K Srikanth will be also participating for the first time. Despite poor performances leading up to Olympics to onus will be on him to carry the expectations of the people.
For the first time, the men’s double pair of Sumeeth Reddy and Manu Attri will be taking part in the Olympics.
In women’s singles, the Chinese will have two players called Li Xuerui, Wang Yihan, from Japan Okuhara and Yamaguchi, from Korea Bae and Sung will take part.
A total of 172 shuttlers have made cut for Rio Olympics where there could be slight change in the qualification if players are in the top 16 ranked players.
Out of these 7 Indian shuttlers Saina has a decent chance of bringing another medal to the country. While others need to step up their performances to get into podium.
