England vs India 3rd test 2nd day: Five talking points
The 2nd day at
Mohali was a topsy turvy affair with the match hanging in balance. After dismissing England for 283,
the Indian team lost 6 wickets, with Ravindra Jadjea and Ravichandran Ashwin at the crease things look rosy for India. The Men in Blue are just 12 runs behind England total.
With the pitch expected to help the bowlers, the first innings lead would be
important for either teams. Here we look at the five talking points of day 2.
1.
Early cleaning of tail
Starting the day on 268 for 8, the Indian team dismissed the
last 2 batsmen for the addition of 15 runs. Mohammad Shami picked the wicket of
Adil Rashid and Garteh Batty to finish with figures of 3/63. James Anderson remained
not out on 13. England was dismissed for 283. It was an excellent display by
the Indian bowlers that restricted England to 283.

Parthiv Patel 42
Parthiv Patel showed great temperament on his comeback
match. He looked comfortable against the fast bowlers and also played the
spinners. In the first wicket partnership between him and Vijay, Parthiv Patel
looked the aggressive partner. After Vijay dismissal, Parthiv Patel was not out
on 37 on lunch break. After the lunch break, Parthiv Patel was dismissed for
42.
3.
Partnership between Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat
Kohli
India lost the wicket of Parthiv Patel at the score of 73.
After that Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli played the England pace bowlers
and spinners brilliantly. Both of them put pressure on England spinners by
hitting the bad balls away for boundaries. Both the Indian batsmen did not
allow the England bowlers to settle which made life tough for visitor’s
bowlers. Pujara completed his half
century off 100 balls. At the end of second session, Pujara and Virat Kohli had
put 75 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Middle order collapse
After the tea break, the Indian team got off to a worse
start losing the wicket of Pujara off the first ball for 51. Ajyinka Rahane who
has been in poor form during this series was dismissed for 0 by Adil Rashid.
The debutant Karun Nair was dismissed for 4 due to an excellent fielding by Jos
Buttler. The Indian test captain Virat Kohli continued his great form and
reached his fifty off 111 balls. From 148 for 2, the Indian team collapsed to
204 for 6 which put the hosts on the backfoot.
5.
Excellent partnership between Ravichandran
Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja
After the fall of Virat Kohli wicket, Ravichandran Ashwin
and Ravindra Jadeja steadied the Indian innings. Ravichandran Ashwin who came
at the fall of 5th wicket showed excellent technique and played well
against the England spinners and fast bowlers. Both all rounder’s created
pressure on England bowlers. Ravindra Jadeja showed intent against the England
bowlers and made sure that Ashwin played his natural way. The England team soon
took the new ball and runs came at quick pace. Ravichandran Ashwin completed
his half century while Ravindra Jadeja remained not out on 31. Both of them
have put on 67 runs for the 7th wicket. India just trail by 12 runs
with 4 wickets to go.
