Four Nations Hockey Tournament: Australia beat India
Australia beat India 3-2 in the first match of the four nation’s
hockey tournament played at Melbourne just few minutes ago. The Australian team
was trailing but showed their fighting spirit to win the match by 3-2.
In the first quarter, for the first six minutes no side was
able to penetrate each other goal. India got few chances to score goals but
Australian defense were solid. At the end of the first quarter the scores were
0-0.
In the second quarter, India earned a penalty corner in the
4th minute but was well saved by the Australian goalkeeper. After
that India earned 2 back to back penalty corners. Rupinder Pal Singh scored the
goal to give India 1-0 lead. 6 minutes before the half time Australia earned a
penalty corner and Jermey Hayward scored the goal to level the score at 1-1.
Australia dominated the rest of quarter. At the end of 2nd quarter
the scores were level at 1-1.
The 3rd quarter began with none of teams getting
chances for the first 5 minutes. In the 6th minute Australia earned
their 2nd penalty corner and Jermey Hayward scored the goal to give
the hosts 2-1 lead. India tried their best but Australia was good on their
attacking skills. In the 13th minute Australia earned another
penalty corner and this Trent Milton scored the goal to give hosts 3-1 lead. At
the end of 3rd quarter Australia led 3-1.
In the 4th quarter, Australia earned their fourth
penalty corner but could not convert. The Australian team showed their
aggression which saw the India defense struggling. In the 8th minute,
India earned penalty corner and Rupinder Pal Singh scored the goal to reduce
the gap to 2-3. India lost the first match by 2-3.
With this loss, India is now at bottom of the points table.
They will take on Malaysia tomorrow.
