5 successful run chases in ODI cricket
One day international is titled towards batsmen for the past
few years. India became the first team to chase down 350+ scores thrice. India
chased down 351 against England in Pune yesterday. It was the fourth highest
successful run chases in ODI cricket. The highest successful run chase was by
South Africa. Here we look at the 5 successful run chases in ODI cricket.
1.
South Africa vs. Australia(2006)
It was one of the amazing matches in One day international
cricket history. The match took place at famous Wanders, Johannesburg on 12th
March 2006 between South Africa and Australia in the deciding ODI match of the
series. Australia won the toss and choose to bat. Adam Gilchrist and Simon
Katich put on 97 runs for the first wicket. Ricky Pointing scored a brilliant
164 while Micheal Hussey played quick fire knock of 81 off 51 balls. All the
Australian batsmen contributed which helped Australia to post 434 for 4.
Chasing this target, South Africa lost an early wicket of Dippennar but Graeme
Smith and Gibbs put on 187 runs for the second wicket. Gibbs scored a brilliant
175 in 111 balls. South Africa won the match by 1 wicket with 1 ball to spare.
2.
South Africa vs. Australia (2016)
South Africa and Australia again played in another high
scoring match. This match took place at Durban on 5th October 2016.
Before this match South Africa had taken 2-0 lead. Australia won the toss and
choose to bat. Aaron Finch and David Warner started the innings off to a great
start putting on 110 runs for the first wicket in 13.1 overs. Steve Smith and
David Warner scored centuries. Travis Head scored a quick fire 35 off 18 balls
to help Australia post 371 for 6. Chasing this target, the top order contributed
but due to David Miller 118 off 79 balls and Phehlukwayo 42 partnership, South
Africa chased down this target by 4 wickets with 4 balls to spare.

India vs. Australia (2013)
This was another amazing run chase in One day international
cricket. This match was played at Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on 16th
October 2013. Australia won the toss and choose to bat. Finch and Hughes put on
74 for the first wicket. All the Australian batsmen played well on a good
batting pitch scoring 359 for 5. The top scorer for Australia was Geroge Bailey
with 92 runs. Chasing this target Dhawan and Rohit Sharma put on 176 runs for
the first wicket in 26.1 overs. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli scored centuries
which helped India chase down the target by 9 wickets with 39 balls to spare.

India vs. England (2017)
It was another amazing run chase in One day International
cricket. The match took place at MCA Stadium at Pune yesterday. India won the
toss and choose to field. Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Joe Root excellent contributions
helped England to post 350 for 7 in 50 overs. Chasing a target of 351, India
were struggling at 63 for 4, but 200 runs partnership between Kohli and Jadhav ensured that get closer to
the target. The hosts won the match by 3 wickets with 11 balls to spare.

India vs. Australia (2013)
It was another amazing run chase during ODI series between
India and Australia. The match took place at VCA Stadium, Nagpur on 30th
October 2013. It was the sixth ODI match of the series. India won the toss and
choose to bowl. Shane Watson and Geroge Bailey scored brilliant centuries which
helped Australia to post 350 for 6 in 50 overs. Chasing this target, the
openers gave a great start putting on 178 runs for the first wicket. Shikhar
Dhawan, Rohit Sharma scored 179 between them. Virat Kohli remained not out on
115 off 66 balls. India won the match by 6 wickets with 3 balls to spare.
