Adam Voges announces retirement from international cricket
Australia middle order batsmen Adam Voges has decided to
retire from international cricket earlier today.
"This will be it for me," Voges said.
"I'm certainly looking forward to getting out there and playing this game.
I've had an amazing couple of years with Australia with the Test team and I've
loved every minute of it.
"I see this as a last
opportunity to play against an international team and I'm certainly looking
forward to that."
Voges made his test debut against
West Indies in 2015. Since his debut he has played 20 test matches with the
best score of 269 against New Zealand. In 2016, he did not perform according to
expectations against South Africa at home and was dropped for the third test
match.
Adam Voges has finished with second
best average behind Sir Donald Bradman. He struggled against South Africa and
Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. He averaged 61.87 with 5 centuries and 4 half
centuries. The Australia was hit by a bouncer during Western Australia match
against Tasmaina in November. Since then he has not played any cricket.
He will leading for one final time
for Prime Minister XI against Sri Lanka in Canberra. Voges has played a major
role in middle order for Australia but failed to contribute in past 2 series.
