India defeated Bangladesh by 208 runs in the one off test
match at Hyderabad on the fifth and final day. It was a spirited by the
Bangladesh team batted more than 100 overs in both innings but the Indian team
dominated the test match right from the start.
India won the toss and elected to bat first. After the
dismissal of KL Rahul earlier in the match, contributions from Murali Vijay,
Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, Rahane, Wriddihman Saha and Jadeja helped the
hosts to post a massive total of 687 for 6. Murali Vijay scored his 9th
test century while Virat Kohli scored his 4th double century in his
test carrier. Then wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha scored his 2nd test
century. Ravindra Jadeja contributed 60 runs quickly. The Bangladesh bowlers
tried their best but could not restrict a strong Indian batting line up.
Bangladesh played their first test match on Indian soil. The Indian batsmen
made use of a good batting pitch. Apart from KL Rahul, the middle order and
lower order scored big runs which put pressure on the Bangladesh team.
Bangladesh batting in the first innings was good. The top
order batsmen comprising of Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Mominal Haque,
Mahmudllah could not contribute much. Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan and
Mehedi provided solid resistance. The captain scored 127, Shakib Al Hasan
contributed 82 and Mehedi Hasan 51 which helped Bangladesh to post 388.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma bowled well. Ashwin became the
fastest bowler to pick 250 wickets in test matches. India did not follow on and
had a led 299 runs. Umesh Yadav was the pick of fast bowlers with the ability
to reverse swing the ball with old ball.
In the second innings too, KL Rahul failed to contribute
again. Virat Kohli scored quick fire 38 runs while Cheteshwar Pujara scored
another 50. India declared their 2nd innings on 159 for 4 giving a
target of 459.
The Indian bowlers in the second innings bowled with
discipline. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja bowled with control not
allowing the Bangladesh batsmen to score runs easily. On the fifth day, Ishant
Sharma did the damage with old ball picking 2 important wickets. From
Bangladesh point of view, Mahmdullah scored 61, Sarkar scored 42. All the other
batsmen scored in double digits but the lack of experience of playing test
matches in India cost them badly. The tail Kamrul Islam Rabbi faced 70 balls
for his 3 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin and Jadeja picked 4 wickets each.
For his 204 and 38, Virat Kohli was named the man of match.
It is a perfect preparation for the Indian team for the upcoming test series
against Australia starting from 23rd February.
