Indian Open Super Series 2017 Day 2
The Indian shuttlers had a mixed day on the second day of Indian Open Super Series played at Siri Fort Sports Complex, New Delhi. In the women’s singles, Saina Nehwal and Sindhu won their respective matches, while Sameer Verma was the lone male player to qualify for the quarter-finals.
In the men’s singles, K Srikanth took on higher ranked Axselen. The Denmark player dominated right from the start and won the match in two straight games 21-7,21-12. Sourabh Verma played his heart out before losing to NG KL in three grueling games. The Hong Kong player won the first game 19-21 before Siril Verma won the second game 21-14. The third set was a close affair as NG KL won the set 22-20.
Sai Praneeth lost to higher ranked Chou in two straight games 14-21,16-21. Only 1 Indian male player was able to progress into the next round.
In women’s singles, R Das lost to World Champion Carolina Marin in two straight games 13-21,11-21. The top star player Saina Nehwal showed his aggressive style of play winning the match against Chowing of Thailand in two straight games 21-14,21-12.
PV Sindhu defeated the Japanese opponent, Kawakami. The first game was a one-sided affair with Sindhu winning it 21-16 while the Japanese opponent gave fight before losing the set 21-23. PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal will meet each other in the quarter-finals tomorrow. Here we look at the scorecard.
