Deepti Sharma registers the second highest individual score in women's ODI cricket
Deepti Sharma was in an imperious mood today against Ireland in the Quadrangular match at Potchefstroom. She became the second highest individual scorer in women's ODI history smashing the Irish bowlers to all parts of the ground with 188 runs off 160 balls with 27 boundaries and 2 sixes.
The left-handed batswomen shared a record a 320 runs partnership for the first wicket with Poonam Raut who was retired hurt on 109 in 116 balls with 11 fours. It is the highest partnership for any wicket in women's cricket breaking the record of Sarah Taylor and CMG Atkins for the 1st wicket of 268 against South Africa on 8th August 2008.
The 19-year-old girl made the life tough for Irish scoring 50 off 82 balls. After completing 50, Deepti Sharma played aggressive strokes and scored her first 100 in ODI cricket. She was dismissed in the 46th over. Before today's match she played 18 ODI matches and scored 478 runs with the best score of 89. With the bowl, Deepti Sharma took 26 wickets from 18 matches with best figures of 6/20. Her economy comes to 3.20 runs per over.
Deepti Sharma and Poonam Raut partnership helped Indian women's team to post a massive 358 for 2 in 50 overs. The Irish women's team did have any answer and were bowled out for a paltry total of 109 runs in 40 overs. Deepti Sharma picked 1 wicket during the innings giving away 15 runs.
The highest scorer in women's ODI cricket has been Belinda Clarke of Australia scoring 229* off 155 balls against Denmark at Mumbai in 1997. It is a great achievement for the young Indian girl to become the highest individual scorer in women's ODI cricket. The previous best by Indian batswomen was by J Sharma making 138* in 150 balls at Karachi.
Deepti made her ODI debut in 2014 against South Africa at Bengaluru. She has also played 5 T20 matches. This is a big record broken for Indian women's cricket to see such a young talented cricketer to achieve this feat.
