Babar Azam impressive run in the Natwest T20 Blast 2019
The number 1 batsman in T20I cricket, Babar Azam continued his
impressive run in the Natwest T20 Blast 2019 with a brilliant 102* off 55 for
Somerset against Hampshire at County Ground, Southampton on Friday. It was a
match in the South Group.
Hampshire captain James Vince won the toss and decided to
field first. Somerset lost 2 early wickets of Tom Banton and James Hildreth at
the score of 37. Opening the innings, Babar Azam took on the attack against
Hampshire bowlers with attacking stroke play. It was an amazing batting display
by young Pakistani batsman who performed brilliantly in the recently concluded
World Cup 2019.
Babar reached his half-century off 32 balls and made the
batting look easy after reaching his fifty. He and Somerset captain Tom Abell
added 113 runs for 3rd wicket. The young batsman from Pakistan then
took on the charge and completed his century with a six off the last ball. He
remained not out on 102 off 55 balls with 7 fours and 6 sixes. His knock helped
Somerset post a massive total of 202 for 4 in 20 overs.
In reply, Hampshire were 69 for 6 when rain arrived.
Somerset won the match by 63 runs via DL method. With this win, Somerset is on 8 points from 8
matches with 4 fours and 4 losses.
Playing his debut season in Natwest T20 Blast, Babar Azam is
currently the top run-getter with 435 runs from 8 matches with 3 half-centuries
and 1 century. With others failing in World Cup 2019 for Pakistan, Babar Azam
stood out with 474 runs from 8 matches ( 8 innings) with the best score of
101*. In the World Cup 2019, he scored 1 century and 3 half-centuries.
In the ongoing Natwest T20 Blast for Somerset, Babar Azam
has scores of 35, 7, 95, 83, 43, 4, 56 and 102*. With few more matches remaining
in the league stages, Somerset would be hoping to continue his great run and
help his side qualify for the knockouts.
