BWF World Championship 2019: HS Prannoy, Sai Praneeth moves into the 3rd round


It was a good day for the Indian shuttler’s as Sai Praneeth and HS Prannoy moved into the 3rd round of the BWF World Championship 2019 played at Basel, Switzerland on Tuesday.
HS Prannoy stunned former World Champion Lin Dan in three games by 21-11, 13-21, 21-7 to move into the 3rd round. It was a dominating display by the Indian who never allowed Lin Dan to play his natural game and led 11-5 at the interval. The Indian continued to dominate the Chinese and won the 1st set at 21-11.

In the 2nd game, both players took alternate points before the Chinese legend showed his class and made life tough for the Indian. Lin Dan won the 2nd game easily to force the match into the decider.
It was one-way traffic for HS Prannoy in the third set and took an 11-4 lead. After the interval, the Indian lifted his game and won it easily. He will Kento Momota in the third round.

Sai Praneeth also had an easy outing getting the better of Lee Deun K of South Korea in two straight games at 21-16, 21-15 to move into the 3rd round. The Indian had a disappointing start to the 1st game trailing 2-5. Both players showed great skills by playing long rallies. At the interval, Lee had an 11-9 lead. Sai fought back brilliantly and gave no chance for the opponent to win 1st set at 21-16.
In the 2nd game, Sai Praneeth played aggressive badminton and never allowed his opponent to play his natural game. The Indian led 11-7 at the interval. Lee made a match out of it to take 4 points in succession to level the scores at 11-11. Sai showed his class and created pressure on the opposition to win the 2nd set at 21-15 to move into 3rd round.

The women’s doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy got a walkover from Chinese Taipei pair of Chang Chui Hui and Yang Chun Tun. They will take on 7th seed Du Yue and Li Yun Hui of China in 2nd round.

The men’s doubles pair of Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy beat Thom Gabriel and Ronan in two straight sets by 21-13, 21-13 to move into the 2nd round. They will take on Chinese pair of Hang Cheng Kai and Zhou Hao Dong.

Pooja Dandu and Sanjana Santosh were defeated by Hsu Ya Ching and Hu Ling Fang in two straight sets at 15-21, 14-21. Other men’s doubles pair of Arun George and Sanyam Shukla lost to Inoue and Kaneko in two straight games by 18-21, 11-21.
