BWF World Championship 2019: PV Sindhu enters finals, Sai Praneeth settles for bronze
It was a mixed day for Indian shuttlers as PV Sindhu made
into her 3rd successive finals while Sai Praneeth created history by
securing bronze medal at the BWF World Championships 2019 played at Basel, Switzerland
on Saturday.
PV Sindhu crush 3rd ranked Chen Yufei of China in
two straight games at 21-7, 21-14 to move into her 3rd successive finals.
It was a dominating performance by Sindhu who looked in control right from word
go and never allowed her opponent to play her natural game. The Indian had a
dominating 11-3 lead at the interval. After the interval, Sindhu continued her
domination and won the 1st set easily.
In the 2nd game also, Sindhu dominated her
opponent and created pressure on Chen Yufei. The Indian showed her attacking
game which made life tough for the Chinese. At the interval, World number 5
led 11-7. After the interval, Sindhu continued her domination and won 2nd
set easily to move into her 3rd successive finals. In the last two occasions,
the Indian had won 2 silver medals. She will take on the winner of Nozomi
Okuhara or Ratchnok Intanon.
Sai Praneeth lost to World number 1 Kento Momota of Japan in
two straight games by 13-21, 8-21 to settle for the bronze medal. Both players took
alternate points with the Indian playing attacking strokes. Kenta Momota had a
slender lead o0f 11-10 at the interval. After the interval, Momota showed his
class and won the 1st game easily at 21-13.
In the second game, the Japanese played with more precision
and made life tough for Sai. Sai tried his best to rattle Momota, but world
number 1 was too good. Momota had a commanding 11-4 lead at the interval. After
the interval, Momota continued her attacking stroke play and won the 2nd
set easily to move into the finals. Sai became the 2nd Indian after
Prakash Padukone to win a medal at the World Championships.
