Hyderabad Open 2019: Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy, Sourabh Verma reach finals
SouIt was a good day for Indian shuttler’s as Ashwini Ponnappa
and Sikki Reddy, Sourabh Verma made it into the finals of Super 100 Hyderabad
Open 2019 played at Gachibowli Indoor Stadium, Hyderabad on Saturday.
Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy defeated Hong Kong Fan Ka
Yan and Wu Ti Ying in two straight games by 21-12, 21-12 to move into the
finals. It was a dominating performance by the women’s doubles pair who have
been struggling for form in recent times. The Indian pair dominated the Hong
Kong pair right from word go and made life tough for the opposition. They will
take on Baek Ha-na and Jung Kyu of South Korea in the final’s tomorrow.
Sourabh Verma had to fight it out before winning his match
against Malaysian Iskander Zainuddin in two straight games at 23-21, 21-16 to
move into the finals. The first game saw both players fighting for each point
from word go with long rallies. At the interval, Sourabh had a slender 11-10
lead. After the interval, both players fought for each point till 21-21. The
Indian held his nerves to win the first set at 23-21.
It was a dominating performance by the Indian in the 2nd
set with aggressive shots and placements. At the interval, Sourabh had a
commanding 11-5 lead. After the interval, he continued to make life tough for the opposition and won the 2nd set easily at 21-16. He will take on Leah
Kean Yeaw of Singapore in the finals.
The Indian contingent had a disappointing Hyderabad Open
2019 with Sai Praneeth, Sameer Verma and HS Prannoy being knocked out in the 2nd
round. Dey was lone Indian men’s singles shuttler to reach the
quarterfinals stage. P Kashyap was knocked out in the third round.
