India beat Japan in a closely game to win Olympic Test event.
After the Indian men's team cruised to an easy victory over New Zealand by 5-0, it was the turn for the Indian women's team as won a closely fought match against Japan by 2-1 in the summit clash at Olympic Test event at Tokoyo on Wednesday.
In the 1st quarter, the Indian team dominated the
first 10 minutes. Navneet Kaur gave India the lead with a fine finish in front of
the goal. Japan levelled the score in the next minute with a brilliant field
goal by Shimizu. At the end of the 1st quarter, the scores were level at
1-1.
The second quarter the Indian team having few chances in the
first few minutes with the likes of Vandana Kataria and Navjot but could not
produce goals. Japan also tried to score a goal as Shimizu created a chance as
Indian team defence remained solid. The scores at half time were 1-1.
It was an attacking start for the Indian team in the 3rd
quarter, earning a penalty corner in the 33rd minute but was well
saved by Japanese goalkeeper. The rebound shot went to Lalremsiami and gave
India a 2-1 lead. In the 42nd minute, Japan earned two back to back
penalty corners, but Indian defence did not give away the advantage. In the 45th
minute, India earned a penalty corner and could not convert into a goal. At the
end of the 3rd quarter, India led 2-1.
India started the 4th quarter on a positive note
with a penalty corner but was saved by the Japanese goalkeeper. Japan also
earned successive penalty corners which Savita made brilliant saves and helped
India retained its lead. India retained their lead and won the match by 2-1.
The Indian women’s team had an impressive performance in the
Olympic Test Event. They held a strong Australia unit to a 2-2 draw, draw
against China and won against Japan by 2-1 in the opening match.
